I wanted to know what gives Matt Rhule the ability to turn teams around. I have my opinion, but from the words of Vincent Shavers’ father,
“Coach Matt Rhule is very experienced, he has great knowledge of the game, he knows how to connect with his players, he’s down to earth, his staff is amazing, and most importantly – he’s a loyal guy.”
Most importantly, he’s a loyal guy. Couldn’t agree more. I was watching the Big 12 media days and I couldn’t help but be satisfied with our coach. Maybe Matt Rhule doesn’t bring the most clicks, the most views, but he is about to bring the most wins we’ve seen in a long time. For me, that’s what matters at the end of the day.
In year two, how many wins can we expect?
I truly believe if we had better special teams last year, a quarterback who completed near 70 percent of their passes, and RBs that took care of the ball, Nebraska would have won 9 games. That’s been our story since 2016.
But there’s about to be a 180 on I-80.
Remember that talented staff Vincent Shavers‘ father was talking about? With the addition of John Butler, Nebraska is bringing in a very formidable defense. Butler coached the Buffalo Bills secondary last year and all they did was finish 4th in points allowed per game (18.3)
The Blackshirts return a top 10 defensive line, they improved at LB, and the secondary should take a step forward under Butler.
With Raiola under center, more depth at WR and RB, and a very experienced offensive line.. maybe the question isn’t will Nebraska turn it around this year, but what is their ceiling?
