Akron Post Game Press Conference
Husker fans, rejoice and celebrate that the huskers have pitched a shut out and scored more than 60 points for the first time since 1997. Raiola looked sharp, Emmett Johnson continued to perform, and Nebraska did what it needs to do against a team like Akron. It has been a long time since Nebraska has looked this complete in a football game. Sure there were some mistakes and things the team needs to clean up, but overall it was a game that went how we all feel it should go.
After the game Head Coach Matt Rhule held his usual press conference, here is a rundown of what he had to say:
– Coach opened the press conference by thanking the student section, and fans who stayed for the whole game. Noting how important that is to recruiting
– Luke Lindenmeyer proposed to his girlfriend after the game
– Rhule gave a shoutout to the special teams for playing hard and making an impact in the game
– This is the first shutout for Nebraska since 2009
– Most all of Nebraska’s players made it into the game tonight, and still held to the standard of the coaches
– Nebraska had 87 total yards in punt returns tonight, which is more than Nebraska had all last season
– Rhule thought Nebraska played well last week, but thinks he needs to watch the tape of tonights game to determine how he truly feels about the game tonight
– The teams intensity on the sidelines was great, especially the Buford’s
– All three phases of the game were able to put it together tonight
– Rhule feels that Raiola does not get enough credit for how good of a job he is doing
– Early on in the game Raiola’s feet seemed out of whack, but Holgorson was able to get him in phase
– Rhule doesn’t want to see Raoila making a ton of “wow” plays. He would rather just see him playing QB, noting that Raiola is elite pre snap
– Kade Peiterzak played well tonight, Rhule was disappointed he didn’t play more last week
– Cameron Lendhardt had hand surgery this week but was still able to play. Rhule noted that he practiced a full pad practice with no food or water in his stomach, then had surgery, and practiced the next day
– There were more packages to play more DL players tonight
– The defensive rotation was good tonight, allowing for a more defined role for each player
– Quinn Clark’s touch down tonight was a very special moment for him and his family given his fathers passing
– Rhule yelled at Dane Key to go get the ball for Quinn Clark after his TD
– The team was challenged to show the killer instinct tonight and they accomplished it
– Emmett Johnson was benched for a play after he fumbled the ball, but rebounded after that fumble to have a big night. Rhule noted that he was that different back that he has been telling us about
– Tj Lateef did a good job tonight both throwing and running the ball
– Lateef has been challenged the last couple of weeks to be more prepared and Rhule felt that he was poised tonight
– As of now there is no plan to redshirt Lateef, he is going to play as needed
– Coach gave high praise toward TE Luke Lindenmeyer tonight for being a great player and teammate
Overall Rhule spoke for around 11 minutes tonight. Enjoy the win Husker nation.
