In the storied history of Nebraska football, few recruits have generated as much excitement and hope as Trae Taylor, a four-star quarterback from Carmel Catholic High School in Illinois. Taylor is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois and also ranks as high as No. 11 nationally by Rivals. Taylor’s commitment to the Cornhuskers marks a significant milestone for the program under Coach Matt Rhule and is a sign of things to come.At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Taylor embodies the prototypical pro-style quarterback. In his sophomore year, Taylor had over 3,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns,…
Chalk Talk: Air Raid The Air Raid has been discussed extensively in Husker circles ever since Dana Holgorsen arrived in Lincoln. But what is it, and can we expect Nebraska to run it this year? So lets break down the Air Raid Offense on this edition of The Chalk Talk Chronicles. What is the Air Raid Offense? The Air Raid offense is a high-powered, pass-heavy offensive system designed to spread out defenses, create mismatches, and move the ball quickly through the air. Originally developed in the 1980s and 1990s, this system has revolutionized how football is played at both the…
The 2025 NFL Draft is one for the history books and certainly won’t be forgotten for many reasons. From the most significant fall ever of a prospect to the fact that this was probably the hardest draft to predict ever. One thing that was predicted correctly, was that at least a few Cornhuskers would hear their name called. While it may not have been the number of players we would have liked to see, it’s still a good sign that the team is moving in the right direction. With that said, let’s see who was drafted and who has signed…
D’Andre Barnes Enters Transfer Portal Early Tuesday, it was revealed that reserve defensive back, D’Andre Barnes had entered the transfer portal. This news is unsurprising considering the enormous amount of talent in that room and the roster cut-down date soon approaching. Barnes was a late addition in the 2023 recruiting class out of Aurora, Colorado. Barnes turned down offers from Air Force, BYU, and Wyoming to commit to Nebraska. While Barnes has been on the team for two years, he has only appeared in one game against UTEP. Barnes will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Rugby Style Punting: What Is It and Why Nebraska Needed to Make the Change
Earlier this week, it was announced that Nebraska will be changing to a “Rugby-Style” type of punting. This will be the first time in program history that Nebraska will not run the traditional style of punting as its main punting style. So why is Nebraska changing things? After all, we all know the saying, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. While Nebraska’s punting hasn’t been a problem, the special teams as a whole have been. Remember back to last December when Coach Rhule said the special teams would go through a “complete and total overhaul”? Well, he wasn’t lying.…
In the world of college football, leadership is often measured not only by wins and losses but by the culture a coach creates. Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is building more than just a football program—he’s crafting a mindset. His philosophy centers around seven foundational principles that go far beyond the field. These aren’t just rules for football; they’re keys to life. Matt Rhule isn’t just here to make great football players; he is also here to make great men. Here’s a deeper look at Matt Rhule’s 7 keys to winning: 1. No Distractions In a high-pressure environment filled with…
The Three Questions Rhule Gets Asked The Most: Why They Might Not be What You Expect
Life is full of questions, especially when you are the head coach at Nebraska—questions from fans, members of the media, the staff, and so on. Many of those questions and the answers you give can affect those around you, particularly when the questions being asked come from members of an NFL team. With the NFL draft just around the corner, teams are leaving no stone unturned. You’ve probably heard some of the off-the-wall and ridiculous questions players get asked during their interviews. Gerold McCoy was asked if he wore a g-string or a jock strap when he played, and Dez…
A solid culture is like a solid foundation; without it, everything will cave in on itself. Matt Rhule has known this for decades, and it has played a key part in his ability to turn around programs. The same goes for his time so far at Nebraska. Rhule made that fact clear this last weekend when he officially announced that Hardley Gilmore was dismissed from the team. Rhule would add, “Nothing outside the program, nothing criminal or anything like that. Just won’t be with us anymore.” We will probably never get the official reason from Rhule, but if the rumors…
The 2025 United Football League season officially began on Friday, with the St. Louis Battlehawks facing off against the Houston Roughnecks. This will be the second season for the UFL, which was formed after the XFL and USFL merged in 2023. So far, a few former Cornhuskers have made a mark in the UFL, like Adrian Martinez, who led the Birmingham Stallions to be the first-ever UFL Champion. While Martinez might not be playing in the UFL this year, there are seven former Cornhuskers playing for six teams across the UFL. Let’s see who made the cut. Freedom Akinmoladun -…
Earlier this week, the #1 overall in-state recruit, Jett Thomalla, posted his final five schools in the running for his commitment: Iowa State, Missouri, Duke, Virginia Tech, and Arizona. As things stand right now, Iowa State is a heavy favorite, especially with many of his fellow Millard South teammates already committed to the Cyclones and the fact his only official visit is with Iowa State on June 6th. With Nebraska not making Jett’s final five, this will be the first time in the Matt Rhule era that Nebraska has not landed the state’s #1 prospect.
