I was 10 years old when Nebraska won their first National Championship. I was 23 when the two-point conversion failed in Miami. I was 34 when Tom Osborne won his first National Championship. And I was 49 when Texas put one more second back on the clock. I’ve been a Cornhusker fan all my life. And at 64 I’m excited to write about Nebraska football. Good things are about to happen.
Perhaps asking that is unfair. I mean I was one of the Nebraska fans who thought Scott Frost was the answer Husker football needed. But who would have thunk it? Scott Frost didn’t learn a thing from Coach Osborne while playing for him. We all saw the lack of humility while he was here, but with Frost’s latest comments the arrogance, lack of awareness and accountability are still a part of who he is. When asked at Big XII media days yesterday, “What did you learn from your time at Nebraska?” Frost replied, “Don’t take the wrong job.” He later…
Not a single Husker fan is unaware of the fact that this is Matt Rhule’s year three at Nebraska. Rhule himself has been reminding the fan base of his success in year three since his arrival, and expectations are for the Huskers to be an 8-to-10-win team this season. Well, the time has arrived as the much-anticipated year three of the Matt Rhule era will begin in Las Vegas next month. The 2025 Big Ten Football Media Days will be July 22-24. All 18 teams will be represented by three players and their head coach at the event. However, never…
College football has another new term, DSA, or Designated Student Athletes. With the House ruling and grandfathering in players, teams are allowed to carry more than the 105-man roster limit. However, they must submit a DSA list to the NCAA by July 6th. With this ruling and the creation of the DSA list, the NCAA has created a waiver for players put on the DSA list to be allowed to enter a special portal window from July 7th to August 5th. Once a player enters the portal he will have a protected status throughout his career. No matter where he…
With receiving four commitments over the last five days Matt Rhule and his staff can now stop and take a deep breath and enjoy the upcoming fireworks. It doesn’t mean the work can stop, but there must be some relief as they rounded out their offensive class for 2026 by picking up players that were at the top of their wish list. Nebraska now has 12 commitments in the 2026 cycle. Ten of those are offensive players. The Huskers have taken: Quarterback (1) Dayton Raiola, 6’2” 205lbs, 3-Star Running back (1) Jamal Rule, 6’0” 205lbs, 3-Star. Tight End (1) Luke…
One of the top discussions this time of year is which conference has the better quarterbacks. The topic is a good one, but it isn’t an easy task. So, I’ll break it down by conference and then list an overall ranking. Of course, everyone has their own ideas and reasonings on this. I won’t list and rank all the QBs for each conference, but I’ll list the upper half. Then I’ll do an overall ranking. B1G Drew Allar, Penn State Luke Altmyer, Illinois Dante Moore, Oregon Dylan Raiola, Nebraska Nico Iamaleava, UCLA Fernando Mendoza, Indiana Jayden Maiava, USC Aiden Chiles,…
A few weeks ago, the SEC was conducting their conference meetings in Destin, Florida and one of the top discussions was the College Football Playoffs and expanding to 16 teams. Naturally, leading the charge to protect the SEC’s interest was conference commissioner Grag Sankey. Sankey’s been very vocal and in listening to him, it’s clear he’s still fuming over Indiana making the CFP over Alabama, Ole Miss and South Caolina. He’s unable to get past it and isn’t going to let it go. Sankey is feeling the pressure, the SEC isn’t the top dog anymore, they are one of the…
At the beginning of this three-part series, I said there are three things that must happen this season. In Part 1, I covered the defensive line and development. In Part 2, it was Dana Holgorsen’s plan for using players to capitalize on their abilities. Today, Part 3 covers the new special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler. What he brings to this team may be the single most important addition of the 2025 season. Special teams play has been so abysmal over the last seven seasons that anything will be an improvement. Husker fans have high expectations for Raiola and Holgorsen’s offense…
When Nebraska volleyball takes the court at the AVCA First Serve Showcase on August 22nd at PBA it will be the beginning of a new era in Husker volleyball. Why? Because Danni Busboom Kelly takes over for John Cook as head coach of the Huskers. Yes, DBK taking over for Cook is old news but don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s not a new beginning for Husker volleyball …. because it is. Recently a colleague of mine expressed concern about Busboom Kelly taking over. I never gave it much thought as I felt like she was the natural choice to…
Like everyone else, Nebraska is in the last week of recruiting before preparation for the season starts. The dead period begins Sunday June 22nd, which means Nebraska can’t host another visitor until the Akron game in September. With that in mind, Nebraska had players visit today and more are scheduled for tomorrow. Some of which weren’t initially on the list a few days ago. The visitors include a few different positions but concentrate on three main ones, offensive linemen, wide receivers and defensive backs. The Huskers will be aggressive in trying to secure commitments as timeline, open slots, and the…
The players, the staff, the fans, the national media, and Matt Rhule all have high expectations for the upcoming season. Some of that is due to Rhule often mentioning the jump his teams make in year three. That, plus the fact that anybody who has been paying attention knows this coaching staff is significantly better, and the talent level is far superior to what we’ve seen in previous years. Another glaring positive you can add is a culture and attitude that resembles something Husker fans saw from their beloved teams of the past. It all adds up to fans anticipating…
