Head coach Matt Rhule clarified Micah Mazzccua’s status with the team on his Monday meeting with the press, stating that he was still on the team but was not a starter. Mazzccua, the Florida transfer and senior that many believed would be an impact player on the offensive line, has not seen a lot of game action with the Huskers. In fact, he hasn’t been seen since the Colorado game. Matt Rhule previously stated he was “working through some things,” but stated he was still with the team. Rumors went into overdrive over the previous weekend when he did not…
Nebraska Huskers overcome slow start, dominate fourth quarter to beat Purdue Boilermakers 28-10
It took until week 5 for Nebraska to play its first morning game, and its first road game. A definite shake up in the routine of the last four weeks. Nebraska was also coming off a tough overtime loss to Purdue, so I knew it was going to be interesting to see how they responded. All in all, the Huskers took care of adversity and won. We can frankly just leave it there. But we will dive just below the surface. Nebraska entered Purdue’s territory 6 times in the first half and had zero points to show for…
Matchup Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers Look to Bounce Back Versus the Purdue Boilermakers
The Cornhuskers blew a chance to go 4-0 and beat a ranked opponent for the first time in almost a decade last week, but that’s over with. The season is still young, and we have another test coming this week. The Huskers will play their first game on the road this season, against conference opponent Purdue. The Huskers need to bounce back to keep positive momentum and progress in year two under Matt Rhule. Kickoff: 11 am CST Channel: Peacock What to look out for (Purdue): To say Purdue has struggled this year would be an understatement. Their…
Huskers lose in Overtime to Illinois, Still Haven’t Beat a Ranked Team Since 2016
In the 400th consecutive sellout, and a battle of two top 25 teams, the stage was set for Nebraska to show they were back with a win over a ranked opponent for the first time since 2016. The Huskers were unable to capitalize on this opportunity and lost in the same heartbreaking fashion they have for the last several years. The college football world does this thing every couple years where they all collectively jump on the Nebraska hype train, proclaim them back without a valid reason and rank them in the top 25 poll. 2024 was the year this…
Matchup Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers up against a Opportunistic Illinois Defense in a battle of top 25 ranked teams on Friday Night
In the first ranked on ranked matchup in Memorial Stadium in a decade, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to stay hot against ranked BIG10 opponent Illinois on Friday night. The Huskers come into the game ranked 22nd in the most recent AP poll and Illinois comes in ranked 24th. The matchup will be under the lights in the Huskers Memorial Stadium under the lights also marking the 400th consecutive sellout. The Huskers haven’t beat a ranked team since 2016. It sets the stage for an amazing night. So, how do the Huskers stack up? Lets see: Kickoff: 7 PM…
Husker Headline Tuesday: Mazzccua Out Versus Illinois – Why There’s Nothing to Worry About and More Husker News
Mazzccua to Miss Illinois Game Last Saturday prior to the Northern Iowa game, it was revealed that Nebraska Cornhusker starting RG Micah Mazzccua, arguably one of the best starters on the offensive line was out due to “coaches decision.” He was also notably absent from the sideline during the game. On Monday’s press conference, Husker Head Coach Matt Rhule stated Mazzccua would be also out for Friday’s game against Illinois, although he noted Mazzcua is still with the team, practicing and just “working through some things.” Guys, there is no reason to panic about this. Sorta like the Evan Cooper…
As Matt Rhule ran into the locker room at halftime, he stopped to talk with the sideline reporter. The takeaway? “They are the more physical team right now.” Rhule looked livid. Nebraska started the game hot against Northern Iowa, scoring easily on a drive that saw second string quarterback Henrich Haarberg line up at running back and receiver, and saw true freshman tight end Carter Nelson get targeted twice, to include catching his first career touchdown. Then, came a 16 play, ten-minute drive by Northern Iowa that thankfully ended in only a field goal. The Huskers scored quickly twice more…
Matchup Preview: Nebraska Huskers looking to keep streak hot against FCS ranked Northern Iowa
This Saturday will be a much different type of matchup than the last two Saturdays. Both UTEP and Colorado were spread, air it out, type teams. Northern Iowa has built its brand on the exact opposite. Northern Iowa is a physical run type team that has averaged more than 250 yards on the ground through two games. They have not thrown the ball more than 120 yards in a competition yet, although it’s only been two games. Northern Iowa believes it has three good running backs that can be a nightmare to matchup against due to their size. All three…
To start the season Nebraska Husker Head Coach Matt Rhule said that the running backs would be handled by a four-man committee which including Rhamir Johnson, Emmett Johnson, Gave Ervin Jr and new Oregon transfer Dante Dowdell. And that’s exactly what happened in the season opener at UTEP on 31 Aug 24. Dowdell, at the time, seemed like the go to back and was certainly the most electrifying before he fumbled somewhere around the 10-yard line on a scoring drive, costing points. Many, including myself, questioned where in that rotation he would be versus Colorado. Especially given how turnovers soured…
In a game I think a lot of Husker fans had circled on their calendar since last years matchup, the Cornhuskers came out and boy did they put on a clinic. The Huskers would end up winning 28-10, in a mostly dominant fashion. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I think we would be up 28-0 at halftime. Very impressive first half, but it really was a story of two halves. The second half was full of mental errors, bad calls from the refs, and a very stagnant offensive plan. Rapid reaction: Offense: First let’s talk about Dante Dowdell. Man,…
