Hi there, this is Bobby Schneider. I’m honored and excited to be member of the Carriker Chronicles staff! I grew up in southwestern Nebraska, in a small town of 900 people called Benkelman. I played sports such as football, basketball, baseball and ran track. I always had a dream of wearing a Red N. Even though I didn’t fulfill that dream, I had opportunities to play college football and wound up playing a season at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. Throughout my life, I have always been passionate about sports, especially Husker football. Numerous peers have told me that covering sports would be a great career choice due to my sports knowledge and communication skills. I’m currently a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I am studying sports media and communications. I am just a small-town, blue-collar Nebraskan who is striving to make a career covering one of my biggest passions. Go Big Red!

It wasn’t perfect, but it was a solid showing. Say what you want about Nebraska’s performance against Northern Iowa, I was pleased with the 34-3 win.  “I like being 3-0; there’s nothing that I hate. We’re just going to get better each week. We start Big Ten play, I kind of refer to this as the preseason. In my mind, we’re learning how to win. As I told our team, the narrative of losing close games comes from when you get a lead, not trying to put the game away. The questions I get asked are about ‘Why aren’t you…

It feels amazing to be 2-0. For the first time since 2019, Nebraska is ranked in the AP Top 25. The No. 23 ranked Cornhuskers move on to week three versus FCS No. 21 Northern Iowa (NIU). Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen will be welcoming in his alma mater. The “Dannen Bowl” will occur at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, on Big Ten Network. Statistics were gathered from ncaa.com and espn.com.  Northern Iowa Offense  During Monday’s press conference, Coach Rhule said, “You’re facing the No. 4 rushing offense in the FCS; you’re facing 298 yards per game and you’re facing…

Did Coach Prime see that one coming? It’s a great day to be a Husker. NU faithful did their part in making Memorial Stadium Colorado’s worst nightmare. Nebraska didn’t just beat CU, they obliterated them. Talk about blue-collar, smash-mouth football. The Cornhuskers not only showed up, they kicked tail in their 28-10 win over the Buffaloes. The statistics below were gathered from espn.com. “Our defense is a star,” Coach Rhule told NBC after the game, and they sure were. The Cornhuskers just proved to not only be a good team but a team to look out for. My prediction of…

Plug-and-Play vs. Blue-Collar All statistics were gathered from espn.com. “Let’s all be ‘Nebraska Nice’ on Sunday,” Coach Rhule stated this in Monday’s press conference. No, Coach Rhule wasn’t implying that Husker fans should go heckle the opposing fans like our fellow friends in Boulder do, but let’s make Memorial Stadium the most hostile environment for Colorado, this Saturday night. The most anticipated matchup on both schedules (at least for fans) is finally here. Will Coach Prime’s plug-and-play through the portal have success, or will Coach Rhule’s traditional program build prove the Buffalos’ flashiness to be fraudulent? The Cornhuskers have been…

Man, it feels good to start the season 1-0. This game went as expected in Coach Rhule’s style of blue-collar football. The most impressive statistic from the 40-7 win over UTEP was the Cornhuskers time of possession, exceeding 38 minutes.  Dylan Raiola fulfilled the buildup in his performance on Saturday. He finished the day completing 70 percent of his 27 passing attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns. This stat line put up by a quarterback exhilarated Husker fans. After the game, Raiola was asked how long he’d waited for this moment; he said, “I think ever since I could…

Nebraska is going pedal to the metal from the get-go. This past week, the awaited announcement finally happened regarding who will be under center. As many have heard, Dylan Raiola will be the guy. The 19-year-old will be leading a veteran offensive unit. Coach Rhule was asked in yesterday’s press conference how he would ease the true freshman into the starting role, and he said, “No, no, no, we’re not thinking that way; I would rather lose the first game than the last game. We’re not going to ease into it. We’re going to play.” The remaining single digits were…

One of the top headlines leading up to the season has had to do with transfers into the wide receiver room. With the additions of Jahmal Banks and Isaiah Neyor, whoever is at starting quarterback will have Big Ten bodies to throw to. Looking at their track record, there is good reason to expect these seniors to be game-changers for NU. The statistics below were gathered from bigten.org and huskers.com. Jahmal Banks The clear-cut top transfer for the Cornhuskers is positioned to be an All-Big Ten caliber receiver. The 2022 honorable mention All-ACC wideout amassed 1,289 receiving yards…

When Coach Rhule addressed the media today, he started with the unfortunate news of senior linebacker Javin Wright being out indefinitely. “Javin Wright will be out indefinitely; he has a health condition that we’re working through right now,” Rhule said. In a room that lost key pieces from the previous season, this is a significant loss for the linebacker room. Wright was expected to be a starter, and his absence thins the depth. With John Bullock having one of the linebacker positions on lock, questions now arise about who will take the other spot. I think that true freshman, Vincent…

Fans and sports analysts have consumed the offseason “Rhule-Aid” fairly. As the Cornhuskers progress through fall camp, they return good production on both sides of the ball, especially defense. Transfers and true freshmen will play an important piece for NU. But for Big Red to be a contender in the Big Ten, returning players from 2023’s roster will need to take the next step this fall. There are many obvious choices of returning players with potential all-conference accolades on this roster, such as offensive linemen Ben Scott or Bryce Benhart; defensive linemen Nash Hucmatcher or Ty Robinson; linebacker John Bullock;…

BSchneid’s 1890 NIL Event Practice Recap By: Bobby Schneider Nearly 5,000 fans filled West Memorial Stadium this past Saturday night for a practice under the lights. The nearly 100-degree temperature, mixed with the all-too-familiar Lincoln humidity, is how Huskers are made. I decided to attend the event to see what I could find out about the early depth chart. When the Cornhuskers came out of the locker room, the highest-rated recruit since Marlon Lucky, Dylan Raiola led the team onto the field. The energy in the practice is legitimate and not all talk. “Stop walking,” Rhule yelled when he…
