Growing up in Nebraska, it was always a dream of mine to write about the Huskers. I have always enjoyed writing music, working in my community, and spending my Saturdays watching college football.
No Identity vs Known Identity What we knew coming into this game was that Nebraska wanted to control the line of scrimmage. Rhule knew who his team was and what would have to happen up front for the desired result. A win. We also knew, Colorado doesn’t seem to know how to run the ball effectively. The first drive of the game went like this: incomplete pass, incomplete pass, sack, then a punt to IGC. Nebraska would receive the ball in amazing field position. We knew Dowdell was our most physical back. We thought Shilo Sanders was their most physical…
It’s the third quarter. Raiola is closing in on 250 yards and has zero interceptions. What happens next tells me everything I need to know about the Nebraska standard. The men who don’t usually see the field are being put in. The game isn’t quite out of reach, but Rhule is putting them in to put it away. In comes Haarberg, the backup quarterback. The crowd cheered so loud for this decision, Rhule could barely communicate the play. What happens next is a message to the college football nation. He goes 5 for 5 and throws an absolute rocket to…
Hello. Did you watch the new episode of Chasing 3? If you didn’t, you can go on YouTube and get caught up. Either way, let’s dive into year two for Matt Rhule at Nebraska. First, we need to have a reference point. So, let’s look at our coach from a historical point of view. 2014 – Temple In the second year, this Temple team actually finished 24th in defense and finished with four more wins than the previous year. They heavily relied on three running backs. That’s a common theme that I have noticed with Rhule. He prefers having three guys to lean on in…
Let’s rewind. Coach Rhule is giving his opening speech and letting you know he’s a preachers’ son that loves football, loves his players, and loves the Nebraska culture. When I heard Coach Rhule talk about God, it gave me hope for this team. Nothing against the last 3 head coaches, but I always sensed there was an ingredient missing. I just couldn’t put my finger on it. An amazing player would commit, win our support, win us a few games..then transfer. We would hear about off the field issues, like of which Georgia and Oklahoma State are currently dealing with…
When Matt Rhule first got hired and gave his opening speech, I knew we got something special. For the first time in decades, I had belief that the Nebraska Cornhuskers finally had a coach that could lead these men on and off the field. Not just on Saturday. I asked Adam Carriker what his take aways were from his interview with Coach Rhule and Big Ten Media days. “He’s very confident, expects Nebraska to be good, he likes that they’re not being talked about right now, and he thinks 4 Big Ten teams should make the playoff.” After bringing in…
It’s been a while. You’re feeling confident. You’ve been faithful and you waited for the harvest, now – your beloved Huskers are finally turning that nasty corner. You start to wonder who will be in the final 12 team playoff. Can my team sneak in? Who else is playing this week? Will there be an upset? You continue reading..FSU vs Georgia TechFlorida State is expected to win by two possessions. Georgia Tech is top 10 in the nation in returning offensive production. Could this be the ACC week zero upset? Last year Duke upset Clemson, maybe FSU struggles to build…
I wanted to know what gives Matt Rhule the ability to turn teams around. I have my opinion, but from the words of Vincent Shavers’ father, “Coach Matt Rhule is very experienced, he has great knowledge of the game, he knows how to connect with his players, he’s down to earth, his staff is amazing, and most importantly – he’s a loyal guy.” Most importantly, he’s a loyal guy. Couldn’t agree more. I was watching the Big 12 media days and I couldn’t help but be satisfied with our coach. Maybe Matt Rhule doesn’t bring the most clicks, the most…
