Playing the Quarterback position at Nebraska is one that comes with great praise and stardom, to counter that, playing the quarterback position at Nebraska is one that comes with extreme pressure and scrutiny.
Just last season, then 5 star true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola led the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a 4-1 start, averaging 245 yards per game while throwing nine touchdowns to two interceptions.
During the next four starts, it looked like a completely flipped script.
Raiola would fail to reach 200 passing yards in three out of the four and would throw just one touchdown compared to six interceptions.
It seemed like Raiola went from a quick fan favorite to quickly becoming one of the most scrutinized true freshman in the entire country.
Once the Huskers made the move to relieve offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and would hire Dana Holgorsen to take over as play caller and the rest was history for Raiola.
Under Holgorsen, Raiola finished his last four games averaging 224.5 yards per game, throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 71.7% of his passes.
While Raiola is looking for a major sophomore season jump, who will be ready to come in if needed?
Last seasons backup and the starter in the back half of the 2023 season, Heinrich Haarberg moved to tight end following the end of the regular season and Danny Kaelin transferred to Virginia.
Marcos Davila:
The Huskers would pick up Purdue transfer Marcos Davila after he redshirted all of last season.
A former 3 star recruit, Davila has similar size and stature to Raiola and Husker coaches seem to love the arm talent.
During his time at Midland Legacy High School, Davila was a three year starter and threw from back to back 3,000 yard seasons as a junior and senior.
Davila is seen as the favorite to be the backup to Raiola and the Huskers in 2025.
Jalyn Gramstad:
The Huskers landed Jalyn Gramstad from the NAIAs Northwestern College last summer.
Gramstad is a heavily decorated NAIA quarterback, throwing for over 6,200 passing yards and 60 touchdowns while completing 68% of his passes.
Gramstad won an NAIA national championship in 2022 and was NAIA and Conference player of the year in 2023.
T.J. Lateef:
Nebraska landed the commitment from 4 star T.J. Lateef on May 12th and the young quarterback will most likely redshirt in 2025, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Coming from the same high school as former Ohio State and current Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, Lateef had a solid high school career, throwing for over 6,500 yards and 53 touchdowns, but what stands out most on his tape is his accuary.
Like Stroud, Lateef’s accuracy is a major strength and it shows on his film.
It doesn’t matter if he’s moving to his right or left, Lateef can make big time throws in tight spaces and tight coverage.
