- When Matt Rhule first got hired and gave his opening speech, I knew we got something special. For the first time in decades, I had belief that the Nebraska Cornhuskers finally had a coach that could lead these men on and off the field. Not just on Saturday.
I asked Adam Carriker what his take aways were from his interview with Coach Rhule and Big Ten Media days.
“He’s very confident, expects Nebraska to be good, he likes that they’re not being talked about right now, and he thinks 4 Big Ten teams should make the playoff.”
After bringing in a 5 star quarterback, returning a top 10 defensive line, and bringing in a top 4 defensive coach from the NFL, and you already have Tony White? Yeah, I can see why there’s some confidence.
Speaking of confidence, Adam also said this of Isaac Gifford, “His eyes lit up when talking about hitting people.” You need that. You need players who love football, who love their team, and who love their coach. This team wants to be physical, they want to get after the QB, and they’ve been working on being quicker and stronger. They’re confident now. They understand how the scheme works. They’re chasing 3 and getting one better each day.
The Chasing 3 series has been a theme for this offseason. For the last few years, Nebraska was always on the wrong end of the close games. In the series, you get to see how hard these guys are working to change that narrative. You can see how close the position groups are now. You can see how much Rhule cares about these men. This team seems confident that a bowl game is the bare minimum. I think they know they’re a good team, now it’s time to prove it.
