Nebraska delivered a stunning upset earlier today, defeating the top-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders 3-2 in Clearwater, Florida. The No. 11 Cornhuskers showcased resilience and timely hitting to hand Texas Tech their first loss of the season, dropping the Red Raiders to 11-1.
The game, part of the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, saw Texas Tech jump out to an early lead. The Red Raiders scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 advantage. Nebraska responded decisively in the fourth inning, erupting for three runs to seize control. Hannah Camenzind started the rally with a leadoff double. Jesse Farrell followed with a clutch two-run home run to left-center field, tying the game at 2-2. The Huskers then loaded the bases after a walk to Carlie Muhlbach and a stolen base by Dakota Carter. With two outs, Hannah Coor delivered the go-ahead RBI single to plate the winning run.
From there, Nebraska’s pitching locked down the game. Starter Alexis Jensen (3-1) earned the win, pitching the first four innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out seven. Reliever Jordy Frahm closed out the victory with three perfect innings, retiring all nine batters she faced—including four strikeouts—to secure her third save of the season. Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady took the loss after surrendering three runs in 4.2 innings of work. Offensively for Nebraska, Camenzind went 2-for-3 with a double, Farrell provided the big blow with her two-run homer, and Coor notched the game-winning RBI single.
The victory marked a historic milestone for the Huskers, improving their record to 6-4 overall with three wins against top-15 opponents this season—including two against No. 1 teams. It represented Nebraska’s fifth all-time win over a No. 1-ranked team and the second such triumph in the same season, a first for the program. Frahm’s dominant relief outings have now contributed to both No. 1 upsets, having thrown scoreless innings in each.
The Huskers will travel to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where they’ll play against No. 16 South Carolina on Friday, Feb. 20. The game is set to start at 12 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on FloSports and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
