In the 2024 season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ wide receiver room was filled with high hopes, particularly with the arrival of two talented transfer receivers. However, those expectations went unmet. Jamal Banks, who took off in the year under the guidance of Dana Holgorsen, managed to accumulate 44 receptions for 587 yards. Although respectable, these numbers fell short of what Husker fans had anticipated. Meanwhile, there were 34 receptions for 455 yards from another key player, Isaiah Neyor who had a higher ceiling but failed to reach the potential that fans and coaches were hoping for.
With the departure of both these receivers, along with Malachi Coleman entering the transfer portal, Nebraska faced a significant challenge in finding reliable targets for Dylan Raiola in 2025. Nevertheless, the Huskers still possess a wealth of offensive weapons. At tight end, they have the dynamic duo of Thomas Fidone and Carter Nelson. Additionally, the wide receiver corps includes the explosive Jacory Barney and Jaylen Lloyd. Another name to watch is Demetrius Bell, who displayed immense potential last spring before an injury sidelined him. His return to full health could be a game-changer.
The influx of talent continues with the addition of Cortez Mills and Isaiah Mozee, two standout freshmen, as well as transfer portal acquisitions Dane Key, Nyziah Hunter, and Hardley Gilmore. This bolstered receiver room has the potential to be one of the best in the Big 10 for the 2025 season. Dane Key, who previously led Kentucky with 47 receptions for 715 yards, brings a proven track record. Nyziah Hunter, in his freshman year at UCLA, recorded 40 receptions for 578 yards, showing promise for the future. Hardley Gilmore, although limited to six receptions for 153 yards last season, exhibited incredible explosiveness with an average of over 25 yards per catch.
With such a deep and talented receiver pool, the Cornhuskers are well equipped to provide Raiola with ample support on the outside, positioning themselves well in the Big 10. Nebraska’s wide receiver room, filled with both proven veterans and exciting newcomers, promises to be fun to watch in 2025.
