Matt Rhule and the Huskers landed a major piece of their programs future on Thursday afternoon.
Elite 2027 Quarterback Trae Taylor announced he has committed to Nebraska. Taylor chose the Huskers over Illinois, LSU and Texas A&M.
The Huskers have been extremely active in recruiting this spring and it pays off with the commitment of Taylor, who ranks as the #40th overall ranked prospect in the 2027 class by On3, while 247sports ranks Taylor as 35th in the nation.
Taylor attends Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois and started in all 11 games as a Sophomore, where he threw for 3,061 yards to go along with 20 TD and 7 INT (MaxPreps) in his first season as a starter.
Many schools wanted Taylor, but it was Nebraska that got him and it felt that was going to be the case from early on in his recruitment.
Back on October 5th, Taylor visited the Huskers for their game against Rutgers, where the Huskers walked away with a 14-7 win and Taylor walked away with an offer from Nebraska.
From there on out no matter where you looked, whether it was social media engagement with fans or Rhule and staff keeping major tabs on Taylor, the Huskers name was constantly surrounding the young quarterback.
Just this past weekend, Taylor made a surprise visit to Nebraska one last time before his May 1st commitment date.
The commitment of Taylor is just the start of what projects to be a great 2027 recruiting class for Nebraska.
During the Husker games last weekend, the Huskers hosted Taylor, alongside multiple other top recruits.
2027 4 star offensive lineman Reis Russell was another key name that visited for the Husker Games, along with current Miami Linebacker commit Jordan Campbell, who ranks as the #125th ranked prospect in the 2026 class, Nebraska feels very good about where they stand with Campbell.
