Nebraska has added new players to the 2026 class over the last four months, strengthening a couple of positions, one was needed, the others are perhaps luxuries. The additions come well after National Signing Day, which in the current recruiting landscape isn’t unusual. However, the player’s Nebraska has added make sense.
They added 3-Star wide receiver Jamari Brown from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago back in late February. Seen as a preferred walk-on, Brown played his high school football with two other Nebraska commits, 2026 offensive tackle Claude Mopuma and 2027 commit Trae Taylor.
At 5’11”, 170-pounds, Brown became the 12th addition to the 2026 class. Because of his size he projects as a slot receiver who has quickness, good route running ability and a knack for getting open. His familiarity with QB Trae Taylor is also a plus for the future. His skillset will give him the opportunity to participate early on special teams.
Last week the Huskers added 3-Star wide receiver Maurice Purify II. A legacy player, Purify is the son of former Husker wide receiver Murice Purify. Like his father, at 6’4”, 185-pounds he has good size. He’s the big, bodied receiver Nebraska has been looking for. Playing his high school ball at Omaha Westside, he was on Nebraska’s radar early on, but it wasn’t until his track performance that the Huskers offered.
Purify had 41 receptions and 10 touchdowns in his senior season, but when he long-jumped over 24’ and then ran 10.85 in the 100 meters this track season, the Huskers couldn’t deny his explosiveness. He becomes the 18th wide receiver on an already talented roster.
This week the Huskers added Kyson Gana, a long snapper from Norris High School. The 6’0”, 170-pounder is ranked No.73 nationally among long snappers. At Norris Gana played both wide receiver and linebacker as well as long snapper. He attended a Nebraska camp and spring practice. While there he established an average snap time of 0.71 seconds and showed good precision which made him a must add. Cory Campbell will be tasked with getting Gana in the weight room and filling him out.
With the Huskers only having one long snapper on the roster, Jack Willis, picking up Gana could prove to be an important addition during the coming season.
It’s hard to imagine the Huskers adding more players before fall, but there could still be a surprise out there. The 2026 class stands at 14 players, 4-wide receivers, 3-offensive linemen, 1-running back, 1-tight end, 1-kicker, 1-long snapper, 1-defensive lineman, 1-linebacker, and 1-defensive back.
Ainsworth, Berymon, Reynolds, Brown, Purify, and Gana will join the team this summer. The rest have been with the team since January. We saw several of them during the spring game, with some like Jamal Rhule making us hopeful for what the season may promise.
