New Transfers
Nebraska picked up two commitments from the transfer portal on Thursday, Defensive Lineman Gabe Moore from Mississippi State and Wide Receiver Nyziah Hunter from California.
Moore was a 3-Star recruit coming out of high school and has yet to play a single snap of college football thus far. After redshirting during his freshman campaign, Moore was out in 2024 with injury. He will come to Lincoln with all 4 years of eligibility remaining.
Hunter, a freshman standout, was the best receiver for the Golden Bears this past season. Hunter racked up 578 yards on 40 catches to go along with 5 touchdowns. At 6 ‘2 and 210lb, Hunter has the size to high point and catch contested balls in traffic, something Nebraska was in need of replacing with the departures of Isaiah Neyor and Jahmal Banks.
The commitment from Hunter was extra important given that they missed out on Eric Rivers to Georgia Tech. Rivers was a big miss, but next year was set to be his last. The positive with Hunter is that he will have 3 full years of eligibility remaining.
Bowl Game Updates
The Pinstripe Bowl is nearly a week away, and there are three starters who will not be participating. Wide Receiver Isaiah Neyor will sit out in preparation for the East-West Shrine Bowl, Offensive Lineman Micah Mazzuca underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, and Tommi Hill, who dealt with a foot injury for the majority of the season, will also sit out.
The Huskers are set to fly out to New York on Monday, and Matt Rhule made it clear the team isn’t there for vacation.
“We’re going there to win the game, we’re not going there for an experience, we’re going there to win the game,” Rhule said. “We’ll have experiences along the way.”
While Nebraska will be without three key contributors and others who have entered the portal, it will be a great opportunity for some of the younger guys to show off their talents. A player specifically to keep your eye out for is Running Back Kwinten Ives. Offensive Coordinator Dana Holgorsen said he’s had a string of great practices in recent weeks and is a guy Matt Rhule has raved about for the past two seasons. With Dante Dowdell no longer with the team, Ives should see plenty of playing time against Boston College.
Ives is just one Husker that should have an increased role, but it will be interesting to see who else gets a shot at the plate in Yankee Stadium.
