HCU Post Game Press Conference
Another week down, another easy win for the Huskers. This week Nebraska kept their starting offense in the game until the halftime, with the second and third stringers making appearances in the second half. Overall the first and second team offenses looked good against Houston Christian, and the defense at times seemed leaky, but held up strong overall.
As per usual Head Coach Matt Rhule held a press conference after the game, here is a rundown of what he had to say:
– Rhule said he goes into every game expecting a battle, not anticipating putting the second string in
– Coach was not happy with the last drive of the first half and the last defensive possession of the first half
– Tackling was good today
– TJ Lateef and Cortez Mills Jr. were given a special shoutout by the head coach
– Some of the mistakes that Nebraska had during the Cincinnati game are still happening and the team needs to keep working
– Rhule believes that we will not win a lot of games moving forward unless we improve
– The upperclassmen are working hard to maintain the standard
– In all three games so far Nebraska’s opponents have been tackling lower than what they are used to
– Kwinten Ive’s has improved and due to Mozee moving out into the slot it has given him a chance to perform
– Rhule believes Ive’s is a starting caliber running back
– Mekhai Nelson was available to play today but Rhule felt it best to let him take a week off
– For the most part the defense played up to standard, noting that its now 3 weeks in a row of under 100 yards passing
– The defense was able to get after the QB today
– Nebraska is a proud member of the Big Ten and needs to improve moving into conference play
– There was a heavy wind on the field today
– Rhule wants everyone to appreciate the way the QB’s and Receivers are playing
– Rhule asked the team at the half if they were satisfied and the team responded that they were not
– The walk on program shined today through Dereck Whacker who had a solid showing this afternoon
Rhule spoke today for just under 10 minutes. He did not seem like he was extremely satisfied with how the team played overall, indicating that there is some work that needs to be done. Something that I think is very indicative of his personality, seeing as how Nebraska has outscored their last two opponents by a combined 120 points.
