June looks to be a monster month for Nebraska when it comes to recruiting as the Huskers look to add to their commitment list. Nebraska’s 2027 class is currently ranked the 10th best class nationally but with over 50 visitors over the last two weeks and official visits starting in June the potential for Nebraska to finish in the top 10 to 15 is very real. The concern now, keeping everyone locked in until signing day. Amir Brown, Tay Ellis and Kaden Howard will be taking visits to other schools even after their commitment to the Huskers. Should the coaches be concerned? The answer, just keep recruiting. Make sure whatever happens you don’t end up empty-handed. As of now these are the seven current commits.
Tory Pittman, Safety, 6’1”, 185-pound 4-Star.
Trae Taylor – QB, 6’3”, 187-pound 4-Star.
Amir Brown – RB, 5’11”.200-pound 3-Star.
Jayden Tavers – DL, 6’4”, 260-ound 3-Star.
Tay Ellis – WR, 6’0”, 170-pound 3-Star.
Matt Erickson – OT, 6’7”, 285-pound 3-Star.
Kaden Howard – ATH, 5’10”, 160-pound 3-Star.
Since Matt Rhule’s arrival he’s emphasized recruiting, but last year and now in 2027 he’s changed his approach and ramped up his efforts. Rather than trying to find overlooked talent, he’s targeted and taken big swings at the very best players going head-to-head with not only Big Ten heavyweights but the big boys in the SEC and ACC as well. Rhule’s staff hasn’t shied away from going to-to-toe against Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson, Miami and Notre Dame. Yes, Nebraska has ground to make up, but the Huskers are slowly gaining momentum.
Proof in that is the nation’s No. 1 tight end prospect, Ahmad Hudson, locking in an official visit. Hudson is scheduled to visit the Huskers during the weekend of June 12-14. What makes Huson’s official visit so important is that he has cancelled visits to Lincoln twice already this year. Once due to weather and the second because of a schedule conflict. He had wanted to attend the spring game but went to the USA basketball Junior National Team tryouts instead.
The 6’6”, 240-pound 5-star is a dual sport athlete and plans on playing both football and basketball in college. Playing both sports is a big part of his recruitment and not all schools have been receptive to the idea. Having already made four previous visits to Lincoln with his last being in November for the USC game, Hudson has met with Nebraska basketball coach Fred Hoiberg and has received a green light to play both sports if he selects the Huskers. Getting Hudson to sign will require the utmost effort from both Rhule and Hoiberg.
Hudson is the biggest target in the 2027 class, particularly due to his relationship with Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor. The two were teammates in last year’s Battle of the Boneyard and the chemistry between them was obvious. Taylor has scheduled his official visit for June 19, but with his move to Lincoln you can guarantee Taylor will be on campus during Hudson’s visit.
Hudson has received 36 Division I offers making his scheduled official visit to Nebraska a good sign. While the Huskers are in the running for Hudson’s services, beating out home state school LSU will be a difficult challenge if not all but impossible.
Hudson is the lone 5-Star visiting and tops the list of 22 official visitors for the month of June. Of the 22, five have already committed to Nebraska, leaving 17 potential commits. Of those, 3 are offensive linemen, 2 defensive linemen, 8 defensive backs, 2 linebackers, 1 tight end, and 1 wide receiver. The true-blue football guys who follow recruiting for a living use the term ‘crystal ball’. It means looking into the future they see said player going to the named school. I’m going to say ‘crystal ball outlook’. Meaning the crystal ball is a little clouded over, but if the recruit was going someplace today, this is where it would be. Scheduled visits are as follows.

If you’ve followed Nebraska recruiting since Matt Rhule took over, you’ll notice the increase in 4 and 5 star recruits this cycle. In Rhule’s first season it was all 3-stars and even a few 2-stars. Whether it’s coaching or just the number of players taking time to look at Nebraska’s facilities due to the HUDL Futures Forum and Battle of the Boneyard, the quality of talent has gotten better. That bodes well for Rhule and Husker fans.
One thing that is noticeable, the defensive backfield talent being attracted has improved with the addition of coach Addison Williams. This recruiting cycle has seen a big jump talent wise with Geep Wade and Lonnie Teasley, both highly respected offensive line coaches. It is something that has been missing.
If there is one thing that stands out to me in this cycle, it’s the lack of running backs that are visiting. With all the hoop-la over running backs and fans voicing concern over not getting someone out of the transfer portal there still doesn’t seem to be any urgency for adding additional depth to the room. Nebraska has one commitment from a running back, Amir Brown. Early on it appeared as if Nebraska would take two running backs in this cycle as they showed interest in Isiah Rodgers, Savion Miller, and Kylonn Haynie. However, after Rodgers committed to Notre Dame, interest in Miller and Haynie dropped off. Neither are scheduled for visits as of now and it doesn’t appear there is anyone on the radar.
As a Husker fan, I’m excited about the possibilities for this class. However, I would think it imperative to surround quarterback Trae Taylor with the best talent possible. With that in mind, there’s still work to do.
GO BIG RED!! SIMPLE, FAST, VIOLENT!!
