Husker Pre-Fall Camp Press Conference Review
Robert Hamberg
Hello Husker Nation! I’d like to thank Adam Carriker and the Carriker Chronicles for bringing me on board as a writer for the website. I will be covering all things Husker athletics and bringing you in-depth analysis on everything from press conferences, recruiting, and on field performances
On Tuesday the Huskers and Coach Rhule held a pre-fall camp press conference, here are some of the highlights from Head Coach Matt Rhule.
Coach Rhule opened the press conference and gave an update on some injuries going into fall:
- Kicker Tristan Alvano- Groin injury. Coach Rhule said he had a quick surgery and has recovered but is not full-go at this time
- Linebacker Michael Booker
- Fullback Barrett Liebentritt
- Defensive Back Blye Hill
- Defensive Lineman Brodie Tagaloa
- Running Back Maurice Mazzccua
There will be a 120 man roster to begin the fall camp
Expect to see a position battle at kicker this fall
This Saturday, August 3rd, there will be an open practice that will also serve as a fund raiser for NIL and other entities to help the football program
Coach Rhule spoke about Heinrich Haarberg and his importance to the team moving forward
Takeaways on defense are going to be a focus this fall. Rhule wants to see 20 takeaways this year from his defense
The defense is starting to hold themselves accountable. It almost appeared as though Rhule challenged the defense by saying “I want the defense to be the reason that we win, in their mind”
Nebraska will use in-helmet communications the same way he did in the NFL. For example Coach Satterfield will talk with the QB.
Preferred walk-on offers have slowed down until more is known about roster sizes moving forward
The Husker head coach spoke for twenty two minutes about these topics and a few more.
In my opinion the way he was talking about the defense makes me believe that Rhule thinks this could be a special unit this year. Based off what we saw last year, the returning production, and year two under DC Tony White I believe this defense could be our best since 2009.
Do you think the defense will be the reason why we win games?
Do you think the defense can make the jump from good to elite?
I ‘d like to know your thoughts
