The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team hosted the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon, delivering a commanding performance that led to yet another sweep in their remarkable season.
Nebraska showcased their dominance throughout the match, achieving a .404 attack percentage with 44 kills off 89 attacks, seven service aces, six blocks, and only 11 total errors. In comparison, Iowa struggled to keep up, finishing with a .155 attack percentage, 32 kills off 97 attacks, three blocks, and 24 total errors.
The Huskers’ offensive powerhouse was evident as their top five contributors in kills all posted impressive attack percentages over .350. Lindsay Krause led the charge with an astounding .833, notching five kills off six attacks.
Merritt Beason emerged as Nebraska’s top scorer, tallying ten kills off 20 attacks and finishing with a .400 attack percentage. Beason also contributed five digs and two blocks. Rebekah Allick had a stellar afternoon, hitting nine of 12 for a .583 attack percentage, while adding three blocks, two digs, and a set assist to her stat sheet.
Leyla Blackwell continued to impress with nine kills off 13 attacks, earning a .692 attack percentage and adding two blocks. Harper Murray rounded out the top performers with seven kills off 17 attacks, two service aces, two set assists, and a block.
Setting the pace for the team, Bergen Reilly recorded a team-high 35 set assists, along with two kills off eight attacks, two digs, and a service ace. Defensive standout Lexi Rodriguez led the team with 12 digs and contributed three service aces. With a challenging schedule ahead, including matchups against top teams like Louisville, Stanford, and Wisconsin, Seemingly putting it all together, something the football team has yet to do. The Husker volleyball team should be a menace for any opponent this year. If they can stay continuous this level of play, Nebraska is set to make another run for the Big Ten Championship and the National Championship.
With this victory, Nebraska improves to 14-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. The Huskers will stay on their home court to face Purdue on Friday night.
