The Huskers seem to be getting stronger and stronger following their unexpected loss to SMU on September 3rd. The fifth ranked Nebraska volleyball team swept second ranked Stanford (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) in front of a packed house of 8,952 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Wednesday night. This victory not only marked the Huskers’ first win over Stanford at the Devaney Center since moving into the building in 2013 but also showcased their resilience and determination to bounce back stronger.
Nebraska’s offense was in top form, hitting .263 for the match while holding Stanford to a season-low .100. The Cardinal, who entered the match with the fourth-best hitting percentage in the nation, were shut down by a relentless Husker defense.
The Big Red dominated at the net with a 9-4 advantage in blocks and a 5-2 edge in service aces. Nebraska also minimized their errors, committing only four service errors compared to Stanford’s 10.
Andi Jackson was a standout performer, notching nine kills on a .600 hitting percentage and adding five blocks. Lindsay Krause contributed nine kills, while Merritt Beason and Harper Murray added eight and six kills, respectively. Not to go unnoticed Rebekah Allick was a force at the net with four blocks.
Setter Bergen Reilly orchestrated the offense with 27 assists, a season-high four kills on a .667 hitting percentage, and eight digs. Libero Lexi Rodriguez anchored the defense with nine digs and two service aces.
In the first set Nebraska jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never let off the gas. This commanding performance shows Husker volleyball’s ability to bounce back and continue dominance as a powerhouse in college volleyball. This win showed that Nebraska can dominate any team in the nation, as long as their head is in the game.
