The Nebraska Volleyball team took the court this past week in nothing short of impressive fashion. A win against the 9th ranked Kentucky Wildcats at a neutral site in Louisville Kentucky Tuesday night was just what the Huskers needed to start the season off strong. After winning the first set 25-21 and dropping the second set 22-25, Husker volleyball seemed to catch its stride winning the final two sets in decisive manner.
Rebekah Allick, led the Huskers with 12 of their 18 total blocks in an outstanding defensive performance. Being the strong suit for the Huskers volleyball team this year, the defensive performance didn’t just stop with Allick. Lexi Rodriguez accumulated 15 digs while Bergan Reilly added 11 more.
Husker Volleyball did not get a very long runway before launch this season. After their Red-White scrimmage last week, Nebraska was thrown into a Top 10 match-up. Not flinching, the team seemed to pick right up where they last off last season. Pushing Kentucky from the first whistle, the ball just couldn’t seem to find the floor for the Wildcats in Tuesday’s Top 10 match.
This weekend Husker volleyball will be home for two matches. The first against Texas A&M Corpus Christi who will be opening their season in Lincoln Friday night at 7pm. Saturday the volleyball team will following the football team with a 7:30pm start time against TCU. You can watch the Saturday match-up with TCU on B1G+ Saturday night but will only be able to catch the Friday night match in person. Husker Volleyball is off to a seemingly normal John Cook style start, and should continue such as they accumulate more matches in 2024.
