In an electrifying “Blackout” at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Nebraska delivered a masterclass performance, sweeping No. 25 Penn State 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 to clinch their third consecutive Big Ten Championship. The victory marked the first time in program history that the Huskers have swept the Nittany Lions twice in a single season, capping off an undefeated conference run with ruthless efficiency.
Nebraska’s offense hummed at a blistering .385 hitting percentage, dwarfing Penn State’s anemic .011 mark. The Huskers racked up 39 kills to Penn State’s 23, while their defense shined with 9 blocks and a flawless 7-0 edge in aces. Nebraska’s back row tallied 41 digs against 23, and they converted 36 of 41 serve-receive opportunities (87.8%) to keep the pressure unrelenting. Across the six sets played this season against Penn State, the Nittany Lions never breached 15 points—a testament to Nebraska’s suffocating control.
Harper Murray led the charge with a stellar all-around effort: 11 kills on a .476 hitting clip, complemented by 7 digs and 4 blocks. Rebekah Allick was a force at the net, slamming 9 kills at an impeccable .750 efficiency and adding 4 blocks. Andi Jackson contributed 6 kills (.357) and 4 blocks, while Virginia Adriano sparked the serve game with 2 aces and 5 kills. Taylor Landfair chipped in 5 kills, and setter Bergen Reilly orchestrated the attack with 29 assists, 12 digs, and 2 aces of her own. Libero Laney Choboy anchored the defense with 11 digs.
The first set set the tone early, as Nebraska jumped to a 6-3 lead on back-to-back kills from Landfair and Allick. Murray’s kills and blocks pushed the advantage to 13-8, and the Huskers sealed it 25-14 with a thunderous block from Jackson and Reilly. Set two was a rout from the start: Bergen Reilly’s aces fueled a 14-5 surge, with Adriano’s twin aces igniting a 6-2 start, before a 25-11 finish highlighted by kills from Adriano and Bergen Sigler.
In the decisive third frame, Jackson’s kills and blocks built a 7-3 edge, which Allick and Murray extended to 14-7. Nebraska closed strong, with Reilly and Allick delivering the final kills for the 25-14 triumph.
The Huskers host Ohio State on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT, with a ceremony honoring seniors Rebekah Allick, Maisie Boesiger, Taylor Landfair, and Allie Sczech.
