Have you ever turned on a movie or TV show on a streaming service that you knew nothing about and ended up hanging onto every scene as the story plays out in front of you? Finding that hidden gem was a pleasant surprise, something that you were not expecting that day but it did end up changing the mood you were in and greatly improved your day. Well that’s about the best way to describe the Huskers new senior football assistant Jamar Mozee.
Something fans were not expecting, but the more I look into him the more I like the choice by Rhule and company to go out and bring him on as an addition to this staff. Jamar Mozee is no stranger to success. As the head coach at Lee’s Summit North High School in Missouri, he led the team to an outstanding 64-35 record over nine seasons. His last three seasons were particularly spectacular, boasting a 33-5 record. Showing that he knows what it takes to turn a program around. Also proving himself as a leader. This may have not been the hire we were all looking for, but it is a hire that will end up working itself deeper into this staff. Rhule has made a name for himself in not only turning around programs and finding 2 star players and getting them drafted into the NFL, but also in finding coaches that go onto becoming head coaches at other programs such as Joey McGuire, Fran Brown and at some point in time over the next couple of years current defensive coordinator Tony White. This is another coach that could come on from a lower level school and could develop into a great assistant or coordinator at Nebraska.
Mozee’s coaching philosophy and emphasis on family make him an ideal fit for Matt Rhule’s coaching staff. Rhule has always prioritized creating a close-knit, supportive team culture, and Mozee’s approach will only strengthen this dynamic. Together, they will work to ensure that every player feels as if they are a valued part in this Big Red family. Rhule has been intentional about building a coaching staff that feels like family. He believes that a strong, supportive environment is crucial for keeping players bought in, helping them develop, and preventing them from entering the transfer portal. Mozee seems to fit perfectly in this style of coaching as his emphasis on character development aligns perfectly with head coach Matt Rhule’s vision of creating a family-like atmosphere within the team. This focus on building strong, supportive relationships will help foster a positive environment for players and coaches alike.
Mozee’s hiring is strategic for Nebraska’s recruiting efforts. With deep roots in Missouri which is his home state and Oklahoma, where he played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, Mozee is a valuable asset in attracting top talent from these regions. His stellar reputation and extensive connections could open new pipelines for the Cornhuskers, bringing in high-caliber recruits in those states who might have otherwise overlooked Nebraska. Not to mention his hiring could also help in recruiting his son Isaiah Mozee. Isaiah is a four-star wide receiver committed to Oregon who has eyed Nebraska in the past. Even taking a visit to Lincoln, Isaiah could be swayed to join the Cornhuskers with his father now on the coaching staff.
The addition of Jamar Mozee to the Cornhuskers coaching staff is a strategic move that promises to yield significant benefits. From enhancing recruiting efforts in key states to potentially bringing in top talent like his son, Mozee’s impact will be felt across the program. His character, leadership, and alignment with Matt Rhule’s vision make him a perfect fit for the Cornhuskers. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, fans have every reason to be excited about the future of Nebraska football and this new hire.
