Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers landed a big time piece of their 2026 recruiting class Monday evening, securing a commitment from consensus four-star defensive back Danny Odem.
The rising defensive back who plays for The First Academy in Orlando, Florida, recently decommitted from North Carolina back in December and has settled on the Huskers over a group of powerhouse programs in Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Penn State.
Odem is a big get for new Huskers defensive backs coach Addison Williams, who lost defensive back C.J Bronaugh to Florida less than a week ago.
Odem is the #198 ranked recruit in the nation by On3, while Rivals ranks Odem as high as #72 in the 2026 class.
As a junior in 2024, Odem put up impressive numbers from the cornerback position, totaling 45 tackles, 3 PBU (Pass Breakups), 2 INT and 2 FF in 10 games.
What does the Film say?
The speedy and versatile defensive back is among the best man coverage defenders in this class.
Odem is not afraid to get physical, as his run game coverage is really eye opening, as well as his knack for finding the ball carrier and stripping the football.
While it’s unlikely we see the Huskers use him offensively, he has shown good reps in the screen game as a wide receiver.
Odem is well built for the cornerback position, standing at 6’2”, weighing around 180 pounds.
Bottom line is, Danny Odem is the recruit that the Huskers simply could not miss out on.
It was seeming like Odem was a lock to commit to Oklahoma, after visiting the Sooners just over a week ago, but as Rhule and the Huskers do so well, they got the last visit from Odem, which proved to be a massive success.
The Huskers will be on commitment watch in the next coming days, with more four-star talent such as Florida WR Larry Miles, and Odem’s First Academy teammate, safety Devin Jackson trending in the right direction for the Huskers.
Nebraska should also feel good about where they stand with four-star offensive tackle prospect Claude Mpouma, who is fresh off a visit with the Huskers.
