The 2026 transfer portal is in full swing as Nebraska continues to have players enter the portal. The Huskers have now had 15 players enter. But more important than entries are players on their way to Nebraska. Big news in that regard is former Notre Dame QB Kenny Minchey signing with the Huskers.
Minchey is said to be Nebraska’s top target in the portal at QB, the 6’2” 210lbs Minchey is listed as a redshirt sophomore. While Minchey doesn’t come in as a starter, he does have a high upside and is already considered Nebraska’s starter for 2026. Technically he’ll compete with TJ Lateef for the job, but in Minchey’s time at Notre Dame he has shown himself to be accurate, mobile, have a high football I.Q., and a strong leader. He lost the starting job completion to CJ Carr this last season. But according to ND HC Marus Freeman starting Carr over Minchey was one of the hardest decisions he ever made. This season Minchey went 20/26 passing for 196 yards with a 76.9 completion percentage. He also possesses the one attribute that this Husker staff and all fans are looking for, mobility. With Raiola moving on the Huskers made it clear moving forward that the QB position must have mobility. Minchey has that and looks to be the missing piece of the puzzle that OC Dana Holgorsen has been looking for.
As players continue to enter the portal one can only guess that the staff is meeting with players and as they do they decide the portal is their best option. It probably also has something to do with what players are coming in for a visit.
As of now, Nebraska players that have entered the portal are as follows:
