Quarterback is the most important position in football, so having stability at quarterback is a significant factor in how good a team will be. Even if you know who your starter is, you must always be looking down the road for the next great player, and according to scouts all across the country, one of those players is already in Nebraska.
Jett Thomalla is a 6’4”, 185-pound quarterback for Millard South High School in Omaha. Per 247Sports, Jett is a 4-star recruit with an overall grade of 90/100. He is the top prospect in Nebraska and is ranked as the 16th-best quarterback in his class, yet Nebraska hasn’t offered him, and it doesn’t look like he will be getting one anytime soon.
Many schools used to aim at bringing in two quarterbacks per recruiting class; one was the bare minimum. In today’s ever-changing landscape, which is college football, recruiting classes are going to start looking a lot different. With new roster limits fast approaching, many teams are going to have to start cutting back on the total amount of prospects they bring in each year. A typical recruiting class was anywhere from 20 to 25 players, but now that number will likely be closer to 10 to 15 players. This will affect every position, including quarterbacks.
Right now, Nebraska has four quarterbacks on it’s roster (five if you include Heinrich Haarberg). Only one of them is for sure going to be gone next year; leaving very little room left to add more depth. That means Nebraska may only bring in one quarterback from the 2026 class.
Nebraska has made 18 total offers to quarterbacks in the 2026 class and has one commit already. His name might sound familiar: Dayton Raiola. However, Dayton isn’t the only quarterback with family ties that has received an offer. Case Vanden Bosch, a 3-star quarterback out of Phoenix, Arizona, has also found himself on that list. Case is the son of Kyle Vanden Boch, who played for Nebraska from 1997-2000. When it comes to Case, he was offered all the way back in 2022, so things could be very interesting to see where he lands.
The fact that Nebraska has made 18 offers already and none of them have been to Jett Thomalla, it’s probably a safe bet to say it won’t happen, barring some major change. Add the fact that Nebraska is up against roster limits and that Dylan Raiola’s younger brother, Dayton is committed to Nebraska already it certainly looks like Jett will land somewhere else.
