In the current state of college football, June is typically the month where coaches build the bulk of their recruiting classes. June is usually the last month to have official visits with prospects and with recruiting rules the way they are, most teams have put in months of effort with it all coming down to big June’s to scramble for verbal commitments.
Nebraska football is no different, with the Huskers this last week having around 10 official visitors during its 7 on 7 tournament and football camp that saw many future prospects (2027 and 2028) on campus.
Matt Rhule will host more official visitors this weekend, and then we are at about mid June. At that point, and for the next few weeks, I fully expect Nebraska to build the bulk of its remaining class. The Huskers currently have the 66th ranked class (247sports) with one four star and 4, three stars committed. The Huskers “crown jewel” in the class right now is CJ Bronaugh, an elite DB and four-star prospect. He verbally committed, and was on campus last weekend. However, he does have a few official visits lined up the rest of the month. This is one the Huskers need to keep hold of.
A major target for the Huskers is four star TE Jake Sorenson, who the Huskers are battling Ole Miss and Penn State for. Also keep an eye on four start DB Jacob Eberhart, who Is scheduled for an official visit this week.
Due to the changing landscape of college football, the Huskers will likely take a smaller class this year, with Sean Callahan of ON3 and Husker Online opining they would take between 15-18. With revenue sharing coming into place and the transfer portal being a quick way to acquire talent, the Huskers will likely be careful with who they take at the high school ranks going forward. The 2026 class may underwhelm a bit, when its all said and done. With that being said, 2027 is already shaping up with Trae Taylor (probable 5 star) and his peer recruiting efforts. The Huskers desperately need to make a jump in talent on the roster to compliment a high experienced coaching staff. In order to attract the talent needed to compete for championships, the Huskers need to take another step forward in the win/loss ratio this year in order to sell progress.
June is one of the more exciting times of the month, as we see how commits to being a Husker in the future. Stay tuned for updates on this class.
Go Big Red.
