Matt Rhule, Nebraska’s head coach, stood before the press and did something we’ve seen time and again from great leaders: he took the blame. After the Huskers’ brutal 56-7 loss to Indiana, Rhule made it clear that the responsibility rested on his shoulders. But, if you’ve been around football long enough, you know it never just falls on one person. The coordinators followed suit, stepping up in the post-game press conference, also accepting their share of the blame for the drubbing.
When the team suffers a beatdown of this magnitude, there’s always enough blame to go around. It’s not just the coaches or the players—everyone on that field, from the offensive line to the defensive backs, bears some responsibility. We understand the need for accountability, but it’s time to move on.
This week, the Huskers face a Goliath in Ohio State, a team that seems to effortlessly churn out talent year after year. The Buckeyes aren’t just another Big Ten team—they’re a powerhouse with NFL-caliber talent across the board. While it’s easy to get caught up worrying about Ohio State’s firepower, the Huskers’ focus should be internal. It’s time to carve out an offensive identity that doesn’t stall in critical moments. More importantly, the Blackshirt defense needs to adopt a mindset that goes beyond “bend but don’t break.” How about we break the other team’s spirit for a change?
Nebraska has shown flashes of potential this season, and while we’ve had our ups and downs, this game is an opportunity to prove toughness and grit. No one expects an easy win, but if we focus on playing Husker football—dominating the trenches, executing plays, and staying resilient—there’s no reason we can’t compete with the big boys.
So, this week, we don’t just prepare for Ohio State. We prepare to show everyone that the Nebraska Cornhuskers aren’t backing down. We’re a tough team that’s ready to face the giant in front of us. Let’s go break some wills.
