On Thursday, Nebraska finally made things official and hired Addison Williams as its new Defensive Backs Coach. William’s has 15 years of experience as a college coach and 3 years of playing experience from his time as a cornerback at South Carolina. His last two stops have had great results. While at Coastal Carolina in 2020 as the safeties coach, Williams helped the Chanticleers to an unbeaten regular season record and a final ranking of 14th in the AP and Coaches polls. In 2020, Coastal Carolina finished the season ranked third nationally in interceptions with 16, second overall in takeaways with 25, and 16th in team pass efficiency defense.
Williams’s last stop was at UCF, where he made an immediate impact for the Knights. In 2021, UCF would finish 7th in pass defense efficiency, an improvement of 97 spots in the NCAA ranking compared to 2020. The Knights would also finish 35th overall in passing yards allowed. In 2023, Williams was promoted to Defensive Coordinator and led the Golden Knights to one of the best pass defenses in the Big 12 Conference. Under Williams, UCF only allowed 12 passing touchdowns in 2023.
Addison Williams is expected to jump in immediately and start helping the Cornhuskers prepare for the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College. The Cornhuskers take on the Eagles on December 28, 2024, with kickoff set at 12 p.m. ET and airing on ABC.
