We knew Nebraska had a plan when it came to the punting position, but we’ve been left in the dark about what exactly that plan was. Now it appears that Nebraska has officially brought in their guy: Archie Wilson. Wilson is a 6’2”, 183-pound rugby-style punter from Melbourne, Australia. Wilson is also a product of Prokick Australia, which has produced numerous Ray Guy Award winners, All-Americans, and starters in the NFL. Nebraska’s new special teams coordinator, Mike Ekeler, has a great relationship with Prokick and even used them to find a starting punter back in Tennessee.

Archie Wilson has been offered a scholarship and is enrolled at UNL as a student, so barring something catastrophic, Wilson should be the new starting punter for Nebraska. As things stand now, he should start practicing with the team next week when summer workouts begin. While the punts will look different this year, we can finally expect the special teams to be special for the first time in nearly a decade.
