Since his arrival Matt Rhule has always been reluctant to announce a depth chart. It’s part of the new age of college football as coaches are afraid of players leaving through the portal if they think they aren’t going to get an opportunity to play. That’s why you’ll see the word ‘OR’ multiple times on the Nebraska depth chart. Frankly, I’m surprised there aren’t more. But, to Rhule’s credit, he also likes to be transparent with his players and let them know where they stand, giving them a slight kick in the rear to pick it up if needed.
One of the reasons I thought we might see more ‘OR’s’ is because I foresee both coordinators utilizing their talent, getting players on the field in certain sets or situations. With John Butler’s aggressiveness I expect to see several players rotated on defense. From two to four defensive linemen to multiple ‘Jacks’.
And who knows what we are going to see from Holgorsen, he could use several different position groupings, 10 (1 RB, 4 WR), 11 (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR), 12 (1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR), or even 13 (1 RB, 3 TE, 1 WR). And it doesn’t stop there as he has indicated using 2 back sets, which would be a 20 (2 RB, 3 WR), 21 (2 RB, 1 TE, 2 WR), or a 22, (2 RB, 2 TE, 1 WR).
It’s going to be an interesting and fun season for Husker fans.
