Nebraska released their depth chart on Monday for the Michigan game and there were no changes. It’s a little surprising since several players either didn’t play or performed well enough to get some attention.
Number two running back Mehki Nelson never saw the field, the number three running back Isiah Mozee only played at slot, and the number four running back, Kwinten Ives was the leading rusher with 85 yards and 1 TD. Yet, the depth chart order remains the same.
HC Matt Rhule didn’t say Nelson was in the doghouse, but he did comment, “Mekhi’s a wonderful young man, but we have some standards. I had him available. I didn’t pull him out. He would have played if needed.”
Malcolm Hartzog and Javin Wright both sat the HCU game out due to injuries. Rhule expects both to be available and ready to play against Michigan.
It’s also worth noting that redshirt freshman Rex Guthrie is tied with DeShon Singleton as the leading tackler with 12 total. Both players play the Rover position. The top five tacklers after three games are all defensive backs, Rex Guthrie, DeShon Singleton, Andrew Marshall, Donavan Jones, and Marcus Buford Jr.
What can be taken from Nebraska’s top five tacklers, all being DB’s and the Blackshirts only giving up a total of 66 yards passing per game? It’s something to be aware of going into the Michigan game.
After three games the Blackshirts only have 5 sacks, 1 interception, 4 fumble recoveries, and 24 TFLs. Considering two of those games were against far less talented teams, the defense will need to prove they can hold up against Michigan.
No additional Blackshirts were announced. As of now eleven players have been named as recipients.

The Michigan game is the beginning of Big Ten play, when things get real and the playmakers must show up. My bet is the next depth chart won’t stay the same.
