One of the top offensive linemen in the transfer portal has just committed to Nebraska. Earlier today, former Notre Dame guard Rocco Spindler committed to play for the Big Red. Since entering the portal shortly after the National Championship game, Spindler was linked to Nebraska, but nothing is guaranteed in the transfer portal era.
At first, it was a multi-team bidding war between Michigan, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Nebraska. That soon went down to Nebraska, Indiana, and Pittsburgh, with many believing Nebraska to be the heavy favorite. Spindler shut down future visits after visiting Nebraska, and then a few days went by, only for him to take a visit to Virginia. Suddenly, Virginia became the favorite to land Rocco over the last few days. In the last 24 hours, it was believed that Nebraska and Virginia had gotten into a bidding war, with Nebraska just barely coming out on top. Nebraska has added two of the top five offensive linemen in the transfer portal, after missing out on the first wave of elite linemen earlier in the portal.
Rocco brings with him experience and known production. Rocco has started 23 games for Notre Dame, including four playoff games this year. During those 23 games, Rocco played over 1300 snaps and only allowed two sacks. While most of his snaps have come at right guard, he can also play center or move over to left guard if needed. While we do not know who the starting five offensive linemen will be, Rocco Spindler is almost a for-sure bet to be one of those five.
