“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer, you beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live” – Stuart Scott
For the past 17 years, Greg Sharpe has been the voice of Nebraska football and baseball. His booming voice and infectious personality have rung through the hearts, ears, and minds of millions of Husker fans worldwide. Sharpe started to call Nebraska football games late in the 2007 season and would start calling baseball in 2008. Over the years, many of Nebraska’s biggest moments have been followed side-by-side by Sharpe’s voice. From Jack Hoffman scoring a touchdown in the Red White Spring game, Jordan Westerkamp’s Hail Mary catch against Northwestern, to Nebraska ending its bowl game drought this year, Greg Sharpe was there to call the action.
Greg Sharpe showed everyone what it meant to be a Cornhusker. Greg was one of the most genuine, down-to-earth, and friendly people you could ever hope to meet. Through some of the hardest years for Nebraska football fans, his voice was there to welcome us. Now, Greg Sharpe’s legacy will forever be cemented in Memorial Stadium. Just a few weeks before his passing, the University of Nebraska gave an official name to the radio booth inside the stadium: the Greg Shape Radio Booth.
While things won’t be the same this season with Greg not calling the games, he will forever be present in the hearts of Nebraska fans, in recordings of some of Nebraska’s greatest plays over nearly the last two decades, and through the future words spoken in the Greg Sharpe Radio Booth.
