Late last night, one of the best all-around tight end prospects in the country held his commitment ceremony. His top three: Ole Miss, Penn State, and Nebraska. Ultimately, Luke Sorensen chose the Big Red. While he is often ranked as a three-star prospect, schools were pursuing him as if he were a five-star recruit. Penn State, along with many other schools, had Sorensen as a top-five recruit on their recruiting boards. When you look deeper into Sorensen, you can see why schools made a gigantic push for him.
The 6’4” 245-pound tight end out of Anaheim, California, is exceptionally well-rounded, and his ceiling looks to never end. While he has limited production when it comes to catching, it’s his aggressive and rage-filled blocking that truly stands out. Sorensen might be 245 pounds, but he blocks like he is 275. Whether he is blocking downfield or blocking from the line, he is essentially an extra offensive lineman on the field.
Sorensen had over 25 Division 1 offers, including those from schools such as Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, and Michigan. His decision to commit to Nebraska came down to two things: The Quarterbacks and Dana Holgorsen. Luke is very excited about the QBs Nebraska has in Dylan Raiola, Dayton Raiola, and Trae Taylor. To no surprise, the QBs feel the same about Sorensen, as Dayton Raiola has said Luke is the top guy he wants to bring in. When it comes to Dana Holgorsen, Luke loves how unique the offense is and how it will combine pro-style and air-raid concepts and personnel together to form an offense that will hopefully be a nightmare for defenses to play against.
