No. 1-ranked Nebraska secured the outright Big Ten Conference title with a decisive three-set sweep over the No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday night at Wilkinson Hall in Bloomington, Indiana. The 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 victory, witnessed by a lively crowd of 2,832 fans, capped off an undefeated conference campaign for the Huskers, who improved to 28-0 overall and 18-0 in Big Ten play. This marks Nebraska’s sixth Big Ten championship since joining the league in 2011 and their third consecutive title, a feat not achieved since the 2004-08 stretch. Hitting at an impressive .340 efficiency while limiting Indiana to .147, the Huskers showcased their depth and resilience, amassing 45 kills to the Hoosiers’ 32, along with a commanding 8-1 edge in blocks and a slight 38-31 advantage in digs.
The match unfolded with Nebraska navigating early challenges in each set to assert control. In the opening frame, Indiana surged to a 9-5 lead, but the Huskers responded with a flurry of defensive stands and opportunistic attacks, tying the score at 9-9 on kills from Harper Murray and Virginia Adriano, capped by a block from Rebekah Allick and Adriano. Nebraska then seized momentum with a Landfair kill and another Allick-Adriano block, pulling ahead to 22-15 before closing out the set on Adriano’s three-straight kills for a 25-19 win. The second set saw Indiana mount a 6-0 run to flip a 7-3 deficit into a 9-7 advantage, only for setter Bergen Reilly to halt the surge with a kill, followed by a Jackson-Reilly block to even the score. Murray’s ensuing 4-0 service run, paired with a Landfair kill, ignited a 5-0 spurt that propelled Nebraska to a 17-11 lead, which they extended with contributions from Allick, Adriano, and closing kills from Jackson, Reilly, and Landfair for a 25-16 victory. Standout performances defined the night: Murray tallied 11 kills on .296 hitting with six digs, Adriano notched nine kills at .412 efficiency and a career-high six blocks, while Andi Jackson added nine kills at .538 with four blocks.
The third set tested Nebraska’s mettle as Indiana clawed back from a 7-4 deficit to tie at 16-16 on a 3-0 run featuring back-to-back aces. Undeterred, the Huskers regrouped with Allick’s sideout kill, Jackson’s dagger, a Laney Choboy ace, and an Indiana error to forge a 20-17 cushion. Murray and Teraya Sigler sealed the deal with key kills, the latter delivering a crucial back-row strike at 15-13 during the media timeout, before Sigler and Allick’s final points clinched the 25-22 set and the sweep. Reilly orchestrated the offense with 33 assists and nine digs, complemented by Olivia Mauch’s seven digs and six set assists.
Looking ahead, the Huskers close the regular season at home with high stakes. They host No. 24 Penn State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT for a Blackout at the Bob Devaney Center, followed by Senior Night against Ohio State on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT. Both contests air on the Big Ten Network and the Huskers Radio Network, offering fans a fitting capstone to an unbeaten run as postseason aspirations loom large.
