After beating 9 seeded Penn State in a rematch of last seasons Big Ten Championship game, the Huskers are back in the Championship for a second straight season and will be tasked with taking down the 2 seed and #13 ranked UCLA Bruins this Sunday afternoon.
The Huskers clung to a 4-3 lead for two and a half innings until Gabe Swansen stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
With a man on base, the hot bat of Swansen once again pulled through at Charles Schwab Field, hitting a two-run home run to extend the Huskers lead to 6-3.
The Nittany Lions were looking to make things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, getting two runners on base for their powerful hitter Ryan Weingartner.
On Luke Broderick’s 64th pitch of the evening, Weingartner flew out to Robby Bolin in right field, sending the Huskers back to the Big Ten Championship game.
Broderick picked up his first save of the season, coming on in relief of Drew Christo and Tucker Timmerman, who combined for 6.1 innings pitched, allowing 3 runs.
For UCLA, the Bruins took care of business against the Iowa Hawkeyes earlier in the day, winning 9-3 to reach the Big Ten Championship game in their first year after joining the Big Ten.
Nebraska and UCLA met for a three game series in Los Angeles in the regular season, the Bruins won all three games and outscored the Huskers 21-8.
Nebraska and UCLA is set to begin at 2 PM CT and will air on the Big Ten Network, live from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
