Nebraska’s recent loss might not be the end of the world for Husker fans. I mean, no one likes Iowa, not even Iowa likes Iowa. In fact, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise, especially when it comes to the future of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen.
Dana Holgorsen has a proven track record as an offensive mastermind. He has served as an offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, Houston, and Oklahoma State, and as a head coach at West Virginia and Houston. His offenses have consistently ranked among the best in the country, known for their innovative schemes and explosive play-calling. At West Virginia, he led the Mountaineers to a Big East Championship in 2011 and was named the Football Writers Association of America’s First-Year Coach of the Year.
With Holgorsen at the helm, Nebraska’s offense has already shown signs of improvement. His ability to quickly turn around struggling offenses was evident when he took over the Huskers’ play-calling duties. The team’s offensive line has improved, and players like Dylan Raiola and Jacory Barney have stepped up.
If Holgorsen gets a whole offseason to work with the team, the potential for Nebraska’s offense is enormous. Imagine an offense that can consistently put up 30+ points per game, with a balanced attack that keeps defenses guessing. Holgorsen’s experience and creativity could transform the Huskers into a formidable force in the Big Ten.
While a rivalry game win would have certainly boosted Holgorsen’s stock, the loss looks like it may have actually worked in Nebraska’s favor. It kept Holgorsen from becoming too hot of a commodity, having Holgesen sign a 2 year contract earlier this week. Keeping Holgorsen could be crucial for the team’s success moving forward. Holgersen is going to be a very key piece in the 2025 season if we can keep him.
With Holgorsen calling the offense and Snow calling the Defense, Nebraska could easily compete for a playoff spot in 2025, pending player development and aggressiveness in the portal.
While the loss stings, it might just be the best thing for Nebraska’s future. With Dana Holgorsen leading the offense, the Huskers have a bright future ahead. Trust in the Golden Rhule, he knows what he’s doing. If history is a teacher, with Rhule it’s always season 1 is a bad year, season 2 is a bowl game and season 3 is competing for a conference title.
