In the heartland of college football, there’s a unique advantage that sets Nebraska apart and its tight-knit family environment. While “nepotism” typically carries negative connotations, here in Lincoln, it’s a secret weapon Rhule and company have been using handily for recruiting success. When you hear recruits talk about Nebraska it is less to our past National Championships and accomplishments and more to our future. What they are looking to build here, and how they feel at home with the staff. This is a distinct advantage for the Huskers, especially if they get a recruit to come to campus with their family much as David Sanders Jr did this weekend.
Recruits talk. When David Sanders Jr. tweets about Nebraska feeling like home, it resonates. This feeling moves across social media and touches base with many recruits both current and future. This organic buzz is powerful, it’s not a sales pitch, it’s heartfelt endorsement. Then today and tomorrow you will see another 5 star recruit on campus in Michael Terry from Texas who has already said this about Nebraska on his X account about a previous visit “It’s like a big family over there. When I went on my OV (official visit), they welcomed me with open arms. Just the culture around them and my family had fun out there. I got to spend time with the players and really got to see how it is out there.”
Recruiting is marketing, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Matt Rhule’s staff are doing a fantastic job at it. There’s an old marketing rule of 7 and that rule states that to truly catch someone’s attention and to gain their trust, you need to be in front of them 7 times. Nebraska is doing that with these recruits and doing it in a way which is resonating. This culture that is being built is one that is being done in a way which is blazing a path. In a time where we have extremes from Dabo Swinney who refuses to use the portal and is starting to regress from those actions, to Deion Sanders who seems to get 50% of his team every year from the portal. This balanced Cornhusker approach of recruiting at the highest level and developing recruits as well as fill slots needed by the portal seems to be the perfect fit for the direction college football is going.
Other notable recruits on campus this weekend included 4 star wide receiver Oregon commit and likely flip, in Isaiah Mozee. Isaiah’s father has recently joined the Nebraska coaching staff this offseason and could be a huge factor in bringing his son to Nebraska.
