Like everyone else, Nebraska is in the last week of recruiting before preparation for the season starts. The dead period begins Sunday June 22nd, which means Nebraska can’t host another visitor until the Akron game in September. With that in mind, Nebraska had players visit today and more are scheduled for tomorrow. Some of which weren’t initially on the list a few days ago. The visitors include a few different positions but concentrate on three main ones, offensive linemen, wide receivers and defensive backs. The Huskers will be aggressive in trying to secure commitments as timeline, open slots, and the ability to balance finances are all quickly coinciding.
Defensive Backs
We learned earlier this week that Nebraska’s four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh decommitted. It was well known Bronaugh was being heavily recruited by home state schools Florida and Florida State, so his decommitting wasn’t a total surprise. Today we learned he has since committed to Florida.
Nebraska will look to fill the void by bringing in four recruits who weren’t on the previous visitors list. Nebraska continues to pursue guys from Florida as three of the four visitors are from the Sunshine State.
One of those is current Florida State commit, three-star safety Tedarius Hughs, 6’2” 170lb, from Miami, FL. While he is committed, he also received offers from Syracuse and Miami and will make visits there as well.
Also visiting is four-star cornerback Danny Odem, 6’2” 180lbs, from Orlando, FL. He is being recruited by Penn State, Ohio State, and Auburn.
Another visitor will be four-star safety Devin Jackson, 6’2” 195lbs, from Orlando, FL. Heavily recruited, he has offers from Oregon, Miami, LSU, and Florida.
And last but certainly not least is four-star safety Khalil Terry, 6’0” 185lbs, from Tustin, CA. Terry decommitted from Michigan State last weekend and reopened his recruitment. Besides Nebraska he’ll be looking at Alabama and Arizona.
All four players visiting are great athletes that the Huskers would love to have on their roster and with the loss of Bronaugh, look for Nebraska to make a real push for one or perhaps a couple of these guys.
Wide Receivers
Nebraska’s only 2026 wide receiver commit is Dyeyoun Bonwell-Witte, but it’s been learned Nebraska isn’t currently recruiting him and he is not scheduled to visit before the dead period. Bonwell-Witte was recruited and offered by former coach Garret McGuire and committed early in the process. However, a season ending injury last fall has set him and the recruiting process back. He will need to prove himself and have an outstanding senior season if the Huskers are to circle back and give him another look.
With no other wide receivers in the 2026 class Nebraska is bringing in three players to visit this week. Today it was four-star WR Zion Robinson, 6’3” 180lbs, from Mansfield, TX. Besides Nebraska, he is currently entertaining offers from Miami and Michigan. With his track speed he has gotten a lot of attention.
Tomorrow will include three-star WR Nalin Scott, 6’3” 185lbs from Powder Springs, GA. Nebraska offered Scott in February, but he is currently committed to Arizona State. This one is interesting because Arizona has a no visit policy after commitment.
Also visiting tomorrow will be three-star WR Larry Miles, 5’10” 170lbs, from Orlando, FL. Miles is also considering offers from Kentucky and Pittsburgh.
Offensive Lineman
While Nebraska already has two offensive line commits in Hayden Ainsworth and Rex Waterman, they ae still looking to add big bodies. There will be two offensive linemen visiting tomorrow, starting with four-star OT Claude Mpouma, 6’7” 308lbs, from Chicago, IL. He has offers from and just came off visits to Florida and Auburn.
Also visiting is three-star OT Javeion Cooper, 6’4” 295lbs, from Melbourne, Fl. He is currently committed to Syracuse but is coming off of visits to Colorado and Florida State before coming to Nebraska.
Commits Visiting
With Bonwell-Witte’s commitment up in the air, Nebraska currently only has four commitments for the 2026 cycle. Two will be visiting tomorrow in QB Dayton Raiola, 6’2” 210lbs, from Buford, GA and LB Jase Reynolds, 6’2” 206lbs, from Omaha, NE.
The other two commits are IOL Hayden Ainsworth, 6’5” 305lbs, from Biloxi MS and OT Rex Waterman, 6’5” 295lbs from Chandler AZ.
The 2026 recruiting cycle has been unique in that it appears Nebraska will take an unusually low number of players, which will result in a low national ranking. But this is a young team with only 34 of the 130-man roster being juniors or seniors. But with everything going on with the House settlement, rosters, and the back-and-forth process, teams are looking to keep classes small and understand where they are financially. The good news is as of now it appears Nebraska is further along than normal with their 2027 & 2028 classes.
One Other Note
Nebraska’s last camp ended today (Thursday) It was a graduate camp. This camp is interesting because Nebraska has added players over the last two seasons in edge rusher James Williams, quarterbacks Luke Longval and Jaylyn Gramstad, along with wide receiver Hayes Miller. It’s anticipated that if Nebraska finds someone worthy of an offer, they’ll pull the trigger since grandfathering players in would allow anyone the Huskers add to not count against the future 105-man limit. However, at the time of this writing, it doesn’t seem any offers were made.
With no further visits or camps Matt Rhule and his staff will take a much-needed break throughout July. Once rested, they’ll return for workouts which will start in August.
