After QB Kenny Minchey threw a monkey wrench in things Monday evening Matt Rhule and Pat Stewart decided they were tired of the nonsense and went to work. By Tuesday evening the Huskers had seven new commits in two days and don’t seem to be slowing down.
As expected, new coaches Rob Aurich, Roy Manning, and Lonnie Teasley have been involved with recruiting players from their previous teams with two players coming from San Deigo State and one from South Carolina. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell leaving for Penn State has also been a factor which has benefited Nebraska. The Huskers have picked up three linebackers, two offensive linemen, one safety, and one quarterback thus far.
New Huskers appear as follows:
- Brenden Black – IOL, 6’4” 320lbs, Senior, from Iowa State
- Owen Chambliss – LB, 6’3” 230lbs, Senior, from San Deigo State
- Tree Babalade – OT, 6’5” 330lbs, Junior, from South Carolina
- Will Hawthorn – LB, 6’2” 220lbs, Sophomore, from Iowa State
- Anthony Coldera – QB, 6’0” 205lbs, Senior, from UNLV
- Dwayne McDougle – S, 5’11” 208lbs, Senior, from San Deigo State
- Dexter Foster – LB, 6’3” 236lbs, Junior, from Oregon State
As of Tuesday evening ON3’s Greg Biggins has put in a prediction for Nebraska to land UCLA wide receiver Kwazi Gilmar. He has already visited Washington and Arizona State. He was WR1 one for UCLA and in his two seasons made 81 receptions for 880 yards and six touchdowns.
Look for the Huskers to pursue another four to five players moving forward. They still need both big inside defensive lineman and edge rushers along with another safety and a second quarterback. There is question as to whether they will add another running back or not.
As of Tuesday, nineteen players have entered the portal. Those along with the seventeen graduating seniors opened 36 spots on the roster.
