In a game that was as lopsided as the refing seemed at times, Nebraska exploited Colorado deficiencies all night long. Ending with fans on the field and a feeling of nothing short of comfort. A competition which Nebraska’s strengths showed abundantly ended with a 28 to 10 Husker victory over the Colorado Buffalo and Deion Sanders.
Until the forth quarter, Colorado was in the negative in rushing yards and only finished with a abysmal 16 yards rushing for the entire game. Not scoring until 10:16 left in the third quarter, Colorado ran into a buzz saw. The defensive line showed amazing tenacity accumulating 5 sacks against Sanders. Going into the game we knew that Colorado’s offensive line would struggle against this Husker front and that’s exactly what happened. With the average Colorado pass in game one being 14.7 yards, Sanders would need time to complete his passes and that just wasn’t going to happen.
The Defense was quick to the quarterback, causing a ripple effect throughout the entire Colorado offense. The overpowering was obvious to even the Buffs fans in the stands as they started shuffling out before halftime. The strength of the 3-3-5 is its ability to bring hidden pressure, and Nebraska has yet had to show its more elaborate pressures this season. Nebraska blitzed very little as it continuously shook Sanders by rushing its base.
Dylan Raiola continued to show leadership and a winning mentality. After halftime Raiola ensured that we wouldn’t let up on offense. There was a moment when I saw him get after his teammates for being aligned improperly. A freshman showing that leadership is rare and impressive. The run game seemed unstoppable at times especially in the first half as holes seemed to open up on command. Dowdell is looking like the back i called before the season, emerging as the lead back with 94 yards rushing.
A balanced offense passing for 185 yards and rushing for 149 yards the Big Red seemed to be a well oiled machine. The environment was outstanding and the crowd noise definitely played a big part in the game, especially early on. Shutting down Colorado’s passing game brought a smile to my face. Nebraska’s defense covered the well talked about revievers all night long and at times in man to man coverage. Overall it was a very pleasing performance by Nebraska Cornhuskers on this beautiful night for football.
