San Diego State linebacker Owen Chambliss, a standout lurker under new Nebraska defensive coordinator Rob Aurich, is scheduled to take an official visit to Lincoln this weekend. Chambliss, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore from Corona, California, announced his intention to enter the transfer portal following a breakout 2025 season with the Aztecs. He earned First-Team All-Mountain West honors after leading his team with 110 tackles, including 9.5 for loss, four sacks, one interception, and a fumble recovery.
The connection to Aurich, who recently joined Matt Rhule’s staff after coaching at San Diego State, makes Nebraska a natural frontrunner. Aurich has previously praised Chambliss as one of the top linebackers he’s coached, noting his high football IQ and aspirations to compete at the highest level.
Nebraska faces significant concerns at linebacker heading into 2026, with several veterans exhausting eligibility, and others showing a severe lack of athleticism late in the season. Landing Chambliss, who has two years of eligibility remaining, could provide an immediate impact player familiar with Aurich’s scheme. While undersized at 230 lbs, Chambliss makes up for it with his speed and great tackling ability. Chambliss is not a lock quite yet, but it sure does feel like Nebraska is by far the clear favorite to land him.
