Happy Sunday, Husker Nation. It has been a week of highs and lows…. Let’s dive into what you may have missed:
Softball Clinches Outright Big Ten Title in Style
The No. 3 Huskers swept Penn State over the weekend and locked up their first-ever outright Big Ten regular-season championship. They took the series on Saturday, winning the doubleheader. They then finished the sweep on Sunday, showing exactly why they’re one of the top teams in the country. Huge congrats to the team, well deserved!
Baseball
On Tuesday, the Huskers picked up a solid 7-6 walk-off win over Kansas State to clinch that series. However, the excitement and talks of hosting a regional would probably die as they got swept by Ohio State over the weekend. It was a disappointing and lackluster weekend for Will Bolt’s team. They will need to rebound or risk falling out of the rankings completely.
Basketball Keeps Adding Pieces
Fred Hoiberg and staff added another transfer in recent days. The portal work continues as they build for next season. South Dakota State transfer Damon Wilkinson (announced late last week/early this week). The 6-10, 245-pound forward/center averaged 13.9 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting nearly 59% from the field as a sophomore. With him and the earlier additions (Sam Orme, Kadyn Betts, Trevan Leonhardt, Boden Kapke, Taj DeGourville, etc.), the Huskers have now landed six transfers as they reshape the roster for 2026-27. Hoiberg is clearly loading up on size this off-season.
Tough Break in Recruiting: 5-Star TE Ahmad Hudson Picks LSU
Five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, the #1 Tight End in the 2027 class and a two-sport standout (basketball), ultimately chose LSU over Nebraska. It was down to the final two, and the Louisiana native went with the Tigers. I personally never really felt like Nebraska had a chance. I do believe there was some real interest from Hudson, mainly due to his desire and Nebraska’s offering to let him play basketball as well. With that said, this always really felt like LSU’s to lose. It also felt like (and this is not the only example of it) that Hudson enjoyed the Huskers social media fans and wanted to use them for engagement to bolster his own social media. I could be wrong, but I believe this was at least part of it.
Playfly Lawsuit
The high-profile arbitration case with 18 Nebraska football players and their rejected PlayFly Sports NIL deals (valued at over $1 million combined) continues to heat up. An independent arbitrator heard arguments late last week, and a ruling could come soon.
Go Big Red.
