Quarterback Trae Taylor officially earned his fifth star in the latest 247Sports rankings update. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound dual-threat from Millard South High School is now the No. 8 overall prospect and the clear No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports. Taylor, who committed to the Huskers on May 1, 2025, has been climbing the national charts all spring. The upgrade comes on the heels of a breakout performance at the Elite 11 Finals, where he was named an Alpha Dog alongside top competition and Rivals MVP of the Elite 11.
With his senior campaign set to kick off soon, Taylor will take the field as both a five-star talent and a local star in Omaha. I’ve talked to people who plan to go to Millard South games this year just to watch Trae Taylor. Nebraska fans have already bought into Taylor as the face of the program and the next potential great Nebraska QB.
The 2027 class is still forming, but with the nation’s top quarterback now firmly in the fold, the Cornhuskers have secured a franchise cornerstone for years to come. As I said a year ago, Trae Taylor will be the most important recruit since Ndamukong Suh, but only time will tell if that will be the case.
