This season didn’t end the way I hoped, with Nebraska getting reverse swept by Penn State and falling short of the national title game. I know some people will call this a disappointing season, comparing it to the football team’s struggles, but I completely disagree. We made it to the Final Four and won a Big Ten title (shared with Penn State), which is a massive accomplishment. It’s frustrating how high we set the bar for ourselves, as if anything less than a national title isn’t good enough. That mindset can really take the joy out of a season like this.

I feel most disappointed for players like Lexi Rodriguez and the seniors who didn’t get a national title. They’ve worked so hard, and it hurts to see them come up short. Watching Harper Murray, who has grown so much since last year, especially with her serving and serve-receive, was a highlight for me. Even when the pressure was on, she stepped up her game, which is admirable.

As for the match, Nebraska started strong, winning the first two sets with great blocking and strong offensive play from players like Andy Jackson. But things started to unravel in the third set when Penn State adjusted, found ways around our blocks, and we couldn’t stay in system. By the fifth set, it felt like the momentum was gone, and I couldn’t even take notes because it was so hard to watch.

Still, I think we need to give credit to Penn State. They played a great match, and their coach deserves recognition, especially given the challenges she’s faced. While it’s hard to lose, I’m proud of this team and the season they had. It’s important to remember how special this team was and not get caught up in negativity. Let’s celebrate what they accomplished, support them, and look forward to the future. Go Big Red!
