Was it pretty? No.
Was it a win? Yes.
Nebraska’s offense didn’t play terribly but they didn’t exactly wow anybody and give them confidence that our beloved Huskers are going to have a really good football season.
I did a short video earlier today, and I said there were two things that we needed to watch out for to tell us whether or not Nebraska would have a really good football season.
The first was the offense. I expected 40 points. We got half that, and we had to struggle and fight to get that many. The offense did not look crisp. Quite frankly, a lot of the time it looked very pedestrian.
Unless something changes, this is not an offense that’s going to get us to 10 wins or 9.
The other problem I said was whether or not we could stop the run. We did a poor job of stopping the run against Cincinnati, giving up 6.7 yards per carry.
The good news is that special teams were right up next to outstanding. Basically won the game with a 52-yard field goal. Our punter pinned them inside the tent, I believe, twice. So that phase of the game went very well for Nebraska.
In the end, it was a win, but not a pretty win, the one we wanted.
What do you guys think that will happen the rest of the season?
