Week 1 Press Conference with Coach Rhule
After another long offseason filled with hopes and dreams, as well as some major Rhule-aid consumption, Football season is finally upon us. We finally get to see what this team is going to look like against P4 competition in what could be a tough first test for the Huskers at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. On Tuesday, August 26th Husker head coach Matt Rhule held his early week 1 press conference, here is a rundown of what he had to say:
– When it comes to handing out the Black Shirts the Huskers decided not to make it a participation trophy and only had it out to the starters this year
– Vincent Shavers practiced yesterday and today and is anticipated to play this Thursday
– The team is recognizing what is ahead of them as far as some of the new rules in NCAA competition
– Kyle Cunanen is the starting PK for the game Thursday
– The team will come in and do breakfast tomorrow morning, do a walk through from 10-12, eat lunch, then take busses to Kansas City
– The team movie for the week is going to be Superman
– Rhule said that he has committed to having fun this year because of the kind of team that he has
– Rhule doesn’t consider this a neutral site game and anticipates it to have a home game feel
– Thomas Fidone and John Bullok made the 53 man roster in the NFL for their respective teams and Rhule proud of them. Noting how much Fidone has had to overcome with two major knee injuries, and how Bullok was somewhat forgotten about on the roster but stayed the course and became an NFL player
– “The process is undefeated for those who won’t be defeated” Rhule said about Bullok and other Huskers in the NFL
– Mac Markway had his knee surgery completed and it was considered successful, he will begin his rehab process now
– 80 or so players will travel Wednesday, and the rest of the team will travel on Thursday
– Rhule is extremely excited for the game and is ready to go. He expects the team to play with passion and energy
– The staff watched about 65-75 plays from last weekend’s games and saw what they expected, not great football
– Rhule want’s the Huskers to come out with a ruthless mindset
– Rhule likes playing a P4 team to start the season, feeling like it makes camp that much more intentional than against a non P4 team
– On his first year opening against Minnesota, Rhule feels they were still trying to learn basics and weren’t quite prepared the way they are now
– First game of the year and nobody know’s what to expect from Cincinnati, but the staff is capable and prepared for that
Rhule spoke today for 13 and a half minutes. Fairly short by his standards, but the coach seemed to be locked in and ready to go. Just under 48 hours and we will have an idea of what this team is going to be this season, get excited Husker Fans!
