College football has changed over the years, and with recent rule changes, June has suddenly become a hotbed of when the majority of that years class will fill out. I would expect it to be no different this year, where the Huskers will land the majority of their class between now and Mid July, with the bulk being in June.
With that magical month being about a month away, I figured it would be a good time to talk about where the Husker class sits as of now, and some key positions they are likely looking to target.
Currently, according to 247 Recruiting rankings, the Huskers have the 61st ranked class, wherein ON3 has them as the 47th. Last year the Huskers were in a similar position in May, before ultimately finishing 20th. The Huskers have three commits so far, 4 Star Corner CJ Bronaugh, 3 Star WR Dveyoun Bonwell-Witte, and 3 Star QB Dayton Raiola.
On offense, look for them to add to the running back room soon, as they are currently in a battle for Four Star Brian Bonner, and Three Star DeZephen Walker. At receiver, they are in position to land Four Star Jayden Warren, and Three Star Ryan Mosley. At tight end, they are in the heat of battle for multiple, including big man (6-6) Camden Jensen, and other Three Stars that include Lincoln Watkins, Mason Bonner, and Luke Sorenson. In the trenches keep an eye on some tackles: Four Star Kelvin Obot, and Claude Mpouma. At guard, I like their odds with Deacon Schmitt, and Hayden Ainsworth, both Three Stars.
On defense, look for them to continue to build back the blackshirts. Four Star LB Jakore Smith is a name to keep an eye on, as is Tank King. At corner, hometown kid Darion Jones is someone I can see landing, as is 3 Star Camren Hamiel from AZ.
Of course, High School recruiting isn’t the be all end all it has been, with the transfer portal going haywire with lower schools developing players that then seek NIL money at larger schools. Until that’s fixed at some point, the transfer portal is just as important as High School recruiting, and sometimes more so.
We are getting to the fun part of the year, recruiting blitz, then fall camp, and then the season. It’ll fly by. Go Big Red.
