Early Signing Day was largely a success for the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they landed the 20th ranked class according to ON3. It also comes in as the 6th ranked class in the BIG10. Nebraska managed to flip 4 star WR Cortez Mills from Oklahoma as well, although it missed on 5 star WR Michael Terry.
Both Rhule and Holgorson spoke today and referenced the transfer portal. Holgorson remarked on wanting to host up to 30 players on visits. He made a comment about getting the right players on the roster that will help them win now. Holgorson mentioned he is already watching tape of players to see if they can come and make an impact.
Rhule also talked about the transfer portal, mentioning that his attitude has changed towards it in the last year. He said he initially didn’t want to kick a lot of existing players off the team to revamp it. The new roster limits and revenue sharing changed his philosophy, and he said he will be aggressive in the portal, at one point mentioning adding up to 15 players. Rhule noted that there has already been a lot of interest from outside players in coming to Nebraska, while also being careful to say they were following all the rules before the portal officially opens.
While Nebraska will continue to lose players to the portal, the number may shock some people. Rhule said the roster, which was at 150 before graduation, needs to be around 70 (to account for the new class and transfers). So, buckle up everyone. It’s this wild ride has just begun.
Stay tuned. Go big red.
